The Virginia & Truckee Railroad gets into the Halloween spirit by offering a number of fun and spooky special train rides during the Halloween season. Other railroads in the area have Halloween trains as well. Pumpkin Patch Trains on the Virginia & Truckee RailroadFriday, Saturday and Sunday day trains, October 12 - 13, 19 - 20 and 26 - 27, 2024. Dusk train on Friday, October 18. Ride the Pumpkin Patch Trains on the V & T Railroad from Virginia City to Gold Hill and back. The pumpkin patch is fall's ultimate playground, so it's the perfect time to catch a train to the Gold Hill pumpkin patch and pick your special pumpkin. For kids who like a little more of scare, check out our Pumpkin Patch dusk train on October 18 at 5 p.m. Day trains depart each day at 11:20 a.m., 1:20 p.m., and 3 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults, $16 for kids, $8 for toddlers with pumpkin, free for toddlers on parents laps who do not pick a pumpkin. Join us in Virginia City for a chilling ride through the haunted Comstock Lode. This Halloween, if you dare, we'll venture to the Gold Hill Graveyard to meet the Executioner. You'll travel safely in open-air cars beneath the eerie glow of a crescent moon, where the wild west meets a spooky, Disney-like atmosphere. This is an evening you won't want to miss—filled with fright and a touch of magic. Enjoy this eerie, electric, chilly Halloween steam evening. Don't miss out - get tickets online. Harvest Train Festival at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson CitySaturday and Sunday, October 19 - 20, 2024. Ride the steam train at the Nevada State Railroad Museum. The event will include a pumpkin patch with pumpkins for sale, food options, crafts, games, petting zoo (Saturday only) and more. Wristbands include unlimited steam train rides and museum entry. Costumes are encouraged. Adults 18 and over are $20, kids 7 to 17 are $15, ages 4 to 6 are $5, age 3 and under free. Regular museum admission will also be available. Train rides depart about every 40 minutes from 10 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. McKeen Motor Car rides at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson CityFriday and Saturday, October 25 - 26, 2024. Have some fun riding this unique motor car around the museum grounds. The Virginia & Truckee McKeen Motor Car is currently the only fully-restored and operable McKeen Motor Car in existence. Come to the museum for a ride between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets are $8 for age 12 and over, $4 for 4 to 11, free for kids 3 and under. To celebrate Nevada Day, museum admission is free on October 25 - 26, 2024.
More Halloween Trains in Nevada and CaliforniaPumpkin Patch Express at the Western Pacific Railroad Museum in PortolaSaturday and Sunday, October 19 - 20 and 26 - 27, 2024. The trains will take visitors to a Pumpkin Patch where they can buy their pumpkins. Trains depart hourly from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. each day. On Saturday nights, Super Spooky Night Trains depart hourly between 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The museum will also be open on Pumpkin Patch Express days. Admission is $15 per car or $10 with 3 cans of food for the EPCAN food bank. The museum is north of Reno in Portola, CA. For more information, call (530) 832-4131. Haunted Ghost Train of Old ElyOctober 18 - 19 and 25 - 26, 2024. All start at 7 p.m. - The Nevada Northern Railway's Haunted Ghost Train of Old Ely takes passengers on scary trips with ghost stories, zombies, ghosts, ghouls, aliens, and maybe even Big Foot. While riding this Halloween train, you'll never know what's around the next bend. Costumes encouraged. Tickets are $45 for adults, $20 for children 4 through 12, $38 for seniors 65+.
