Fireworks are Illegal in Washoe County

Except for regulated fireworks shows, it is illegal to set off any kind of fireworks in Washoe County and in all areas (both Nevada and California) around Lake Tahoe. That's why we don't have those fireworks stands like you may have seen in other places. If you choose to ignore this prohibition, you will face stiff penalties. If your irresponsible behavior causes a fire and/or harm to people or property, you will be liable and could end up broke for the rest of your life. Go enjoy one of the fireworks shows in the area and leave the pyrotechnics to the experts.

The only exception to the no fireworks rule is at Pyramid Lake, where you can buy fireworks and shoot them off at designated locations within the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Reservation and according to the rules set forth by the tribe.
