September is National Preparedness Month. Make sure you and your family are ready for any of the natural disasters that can occur in the Reno region, including wildfire, earthquakes, and flooding. Big events during September, 2024 include...

Burning Man 2024 - Burning Man in the Black Rock Desert is from August 25 through September 2, 2024. The 2024 art theme is "Curiouser & Curiouser."

Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off - Wednesday through Sunday, August 28 - September 2, 2024. The Nugget Rib Cook-Off is really a cooking competition between the professional barbeque teams that will also be serving ribs and fixins to the public during the event. Admission to the Nugget Rib Cook-Off and parking are free. Held at Victorian Square in Sparks.

Annual Numaga Indian Days Pow Wow - Friday through Sunday, August 30 - September 1, 2024. This free, family-friendly annual event is held over Labor Day weekend and features some of the best Native American dancers, singers and drummers in the country. Besides the memorable pow wow entertainment, over 50 vendors sell traditional native foods and handcrafted silver work, bead work, baskets and other American Indian art. The event is at Hungry Valley, 266 Loop Road in Sparks. Hungry Valley is 18 miles north of downtown Reno in scenic Eagle Canyon.

Labor Day Weekend - Friday through Monday, August 30 - September 2, 2024. This weekend is the last big holiday weekend of the summer. There are plenty of things to do for your last summer fling, including train rides, hiking, picnicking, swimming and water play, visiting museums, the Nugget Rib Cook-Off, and more.

Senior Fest 2024 - Tuesday, September 3, 2024. Held at the Reno Town Mall, Senior Fest provides seniors with the opportunity to connect with senior service providers and businesses. Businesses and agencies will be on hand offering a wide range of resources for seniors, boomers, and retirees. The event is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is free and open to the public. The Reno Town Mall is at the corner of S. Virginia Street and Peckham Lane, across from the Atlantis Hotel Casino.

Wolf Pack Football - Saturday, September 7, 2024. The Pack takes on the Georgia Southern University Eagles at Mackay Stadium. Next is an away game vs. University of Minnesota Gophers on September 14. Another home game follows against the Eastern Washington University Eagles on September 21.

43rd Great Reno Balloon Race - Friday through Sunday, September 6 - 8, 2024. You have to get up real early, but it's worth it to enjoy the colorful spectacle of the world's largest free hot air balloon event. It is held annually at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park in Reno.

65th Annual International Camel & Ostrich Races - Friday through Sunday, September 6 - 8, 2024. Bring the family to Virginia City to enjoy this hilarious event, a tradition that dates back to the 50s. Friday is Hot Camel Nights starting at 5 p.m. On Saturday, two shows at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday races start at 12 noon, plus there are lots of other activities around town throughout the weekend. No umbrellas, weapons or pets allowed.

Reno Greek Festival - Friday and Saturday, September 6 - 7, 2024. Come and enjoy Greek food, live music, dancing, tours of Saint Anthony Greek Church and just a great time together as a community. 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, 12 noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday. General admission is $12. Advance tickets for $12 get you $10 worth of food credit. Kids 12 and under are free. At St. Anthony Greek Orthodox Church, 4795 Lakeside Dr. in Reno.

Social Science: In It to Win It - Saturday, September 7, 2024, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Challenge yourself and your friends in a fun-filled series of science-based challenges to see who will be crowned the winner. This is a 21+ event at The Discovery Museum, 490 S. Center Street in Reno. This is a popular event with limited capacity - it is recommended to buy tickets online in advance.

Northern Nevada Pride Parade and Festival - Saturday, September 7, 2024, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The festival will be at Wingfield Park with musical entertainment and more. General admission is $10. Everyone is invited. Proceeds benefit the local LGBTQ+ community center. The parade is free to watch and starts at 10 a.m. at the Reno Arch in downtown Reno.

Sierra Nevada Yarn Crawl - Thursday through Sunday, September 12 - 15, 2024. It's a free event designed to celebrate friends, community and all things fiber. We welcome you into our shops, homes, ranches, warehouses, and more. Visit the website for more details.

Wolf Pack Football - Saturday, September 14, 2024, 12:30 p.m. The Pack takes on the University of Minnesota Gophers in an away game in Minneapolis, MN.

Hands ON! Second Saturdays - Saturday, September 14, 2024, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Come to the Nevada Museum of Art for a day of fun family activities and free admission for all. The theme is different each Second Saturday and is sometimes related to one of the current exhibits. Enjoy free admission and activities at the Museum. Participate in hands-on art projects and storytelling.

Saint-Georges' Sword and Bow - Saturday, September 14, 2024, 10 a.m. activities, 11 a.m. concert. Enjoy a free family concert at the Pioneer Center, brought to you by the Reno Philharmonic and others. Hoping to become the next great pop sensation, a young girl discovers her music teacher was the biggest star in 18th-century France. A captivating story of passion, dreams, legacy, and hope. The Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts is at 100 S. Virginia St. in downtown Reno.

Biggest Little Fall Community Cleanup - Saturday, September 14, 2024, 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The City of Reno is holding the 2024 Biggest Little Fall Community Cleanups events, where you can safely dispose of household hazardous waste, electronics, junk items, and more - at no cost. Only residential waste is accepted and once bins are full, people will be turned away. This first fall event is at McQueen High School. Visit the website for lists of items are accepted and not accepted, and to see upcoming event locations and times - there will be 5 more.

Reno Startup Week - Monday through Friday, September 16 - 20, 2024. Bringing together founders, innovators, dreamers, makers, and business owners for a week-long celebration of the entrepreneurial spirit in Northern Nevada. The week will offer a variety of activities, workshops, discussions, speakers and networking opportunities to foster innovation and collaboration among entrepreneurs of all stages. Reno Wine Walk - Saturday, September 21, 2024, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Riverwalk Merchants present this fun event every third Saturday of the month. Visit any of the participating merchants with $30 and receive your wine glass and hand stamp (with photo ID), then make the rounds sampling wines at numerous businesses in the area. Truckee River Cleanup Day - Saturday, September 21, 2024. Cleanup and beautification projects span from Verdi to Lockwood. Projects include storm-drain stenciling, litter pickup, graffiti removal, in-the-river trash removal, weed pulling and park beautification projects. "Alice in Wonderland" at The Pioneer Center - Saturday and Sunday, September 21 - 22, 2024. Choreographed by Alexander Van Alstyne, Alice in Wonderland is the captivating story of the young girl and her adventures in Wonderland. This enchanted story is filled with mesmerizing dance, intrigue, and is fun for the entire family. The Reno Philharmonic Orchestra will perform the beautiful score. The Saturday performance is at 8 p.m., Sunday at 2 p.m.

Dozers & Dirt - Saturday, September 21, 2024, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Join us and get dirty digging-in your shovels to support local children battling cancer. We invite big and little kids alike to operate more than 35 pieces of heavy construction equipment, experience up-close displays of the RAVEN helicopter, a bomb unit, police cars, fire trucks, and more. All proceeds benefit the Northern Nevada Children's Cancer Foundation. Tickets available online from the website. Event is at Rilite Aggregate, 9208 Western Skies Drive in south Reno. Closed-toe shoes required.

"Bug Bonanza!" Junior Naturalist Program - Saturday, September 21, 2024, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This month for our Junior Naturalist Program, we will be at Manzanita Park to explore entomology with fun games and activities that are sure to bee a bugging good time. Bring the whole family and join us for this free educational program. Sponsored by Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation.

Fiesta on Wells - Sunday, September 22, 2024, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Come say hi and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with music, folkloric dancers, delicious food and more. Free fun for the whole family. We close several blocks on South Wells Avenue, from Crampton St. to Vassar St. for this big street party.

Street Vibrations Fall Rally - Thursday through Sunday, September 26 - 29, 2024. Over 50,000 riders converge for the Fall Rally and there are even more events and things to do, including Tattoo Expo, hundreds of vendors, factory rigs selling everything motorcycle, stunt shows, rides to Lake Tahoe, and biker drinking places.

Dragon Lights: Year of the Dragon - September 27 - November 30, 2024. Dragon Lights Reno will once again illuminate the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Gardens in Rancho San Rafael Park with all new lantern displays. To celebrate the year of the dragon, our centerpiece boasts a magnificent 100-foot-long dragon soaring majestically through a cherry blossom forest. Adding to the magic, a brand-new winter wonderland section has been introduced, reflecting the season transition. Save money by buying tickets online. National Public Lands Day - Saturday, September 28, 2024. Enjoy an entrance fee free day at hundreds of units of our National Parks system and other public lands administered by agencies like the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management. You can also volunteer and help with public lands projects across the country. Locally, Friends of Nevada Wilderness and Friends of Black Rock-High Rock will be hosting service projects.

Biggest Little Fall Community Cleanup - Saturday, September 28, 2024, 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The City of Reno is holding the 2024 Biggest Little Fall Community Cleanups events, where you can safely dispose of household hazardous waste, electronics, junk items, and more - at no cost. Genoa Candy Dance Arts & Crafts Faire - Saturday and Sunday, September 28 - 29, 2024. This event carries on a tradition started in 1919. There will be over 300 exhibitors, music and entertainment, and 3,000 pounds of homemade candy. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Tickets required for the Candy Dance and Dinner. (775) 782-8696.
