Summer Camps for Kids - Summer camps are starting. For the best choice and pricing, now is the time to get your kids signed up for the camps and activities they will enjoy during summer vacation. National Trails Day - Friday to Sunday, May 31 to June 2, 2024. National Trails Day recognizes the incredible benefits of federal, state and local trails. Events held throughout the United States encourage people to discover their local trails and share their excitement for the outdoors. Locally, Friends of Black Rock High Rock are sponsoring a weekend helping improve our public lands at Steven's Camp, a remote location in the Black Rock National Conservation Area. You can signup online. Washoe County Library Booksale - June 1 - 9, 2024. Book sales are a function of Friends of Washoe County Library. Sales are in the mall space next door to the Sierra View Library in the Reno Town Mall. Preview day for Friends members is on the Friday before each sale period, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. If you aren't a member, you can join Friends at the door. The sale is open to all every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Half-price (except specially priced books) day is the last Saturday of the sale. The final Sunday of the sale period is $5 bag day. Sales are cash or check only - credit cards are not accepted. The book sales feature a large selection of books, DVDs, CDs, and VHS tapes at bargain prices. 2024 Summer Reading Challenge - June 1 through July 31, 2024. This year's theme is "Adventure Begins at Your Library." Washoe County Library uses Beanstack for all our reading challenges. Visit our Beanstack page to create an account online. If you previously created an account, you may sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge beginning May 1. To help keep track of your reading between logins, pick up a reading log from any Washoe County Library branch or download one from the webpage. For other fun free stuff going on at the libraries, refer to "Free Events and Programs at Washoe County Libraries." Reno Aces Baseball - Saturday, June 1, 2024. June's first game is vs. the Salt Lake Bees at Greater Nevada Field, followed by six games vs. the Sacramento River Cats from June 11 to 16 and another six against the Oklahoma City Dodgers from June 25 to 30. Discover Your Parks Series - June 1 and 5, 2024. Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is leading Discover Your Parks Series in different parks located in Washoe County. This is a free program of all-ages events that aims to engage and uplift the community through arts, education and recreation in our local parks. Capacity is limited and you must register online from the website for each program. The series is open to all, but capacity is limited - register online from the website for each walk. Call (775) 410-1702 for more information. 2023 Reno Margarita Day Crawl - Saturday, June 1, 2024, 12 noon to 6 p.m. Margarita Day will be a chance to soak up some rays in a relaxed atmosphere where we can all enjoy some good bubbly, listen to some tunes and stroll around hitting our favorite bars. Mark Wellman's Adventure Day and Abilities Expo at Sparks Marina - Sunday, June 2, 2024, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A variety of adaptive sports will be featured at the free annual Mark Wellman's Adventure Day event at the Sparks Marina Park. People with disabilities and their friends and families are invited to try out hand-cycling, kayaking and rock climbing through the use of a broad range of adaptive equipment. Additionally, access to information and resources from a variety of community organizations such as Arts for All, Nevada, Nevada Center for Excellence in Disabilities, and Nevada Disability Advocacy and Law Center, to name a few, will be available. Reno Food & Drink Week - Monday to Friday, June 3 - 14, 2024. Come dine at dozens of food and drink establishments (including breweries and distilleries) in Reno, Sparks and elsewhere in Northern Nevada. For Reno Food & Drink Week, each establishment is serving a special cocktail, signature dish, prix fixe menu, tasting flight or something else. Guided Walking Tours from HRPS - Tuesday, June 4, 2024, 6 p.m. Presented by Historic Reno Preservation Society, tours are open to the public. These walks are for you if you want to know more about Reno's colorful past and the remnants that remain scattered throughout the city. Today's tour covers the Powning Addition I. Visit the website to learn about several more tours in June and July. Feed the Camel - opening for the season on June 5, 2024. Come enjoy fun family evenings and get great food at the same time. "Feed the Camel" is on Wednesday evenings at McKinley Arts and Culture Center. Come Fish with Rebecca - Thursday, June 6, 2024, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sparks Rotary Club invites all adaptive youth to Sparks Marina for a fun day of fishing with Rebecca. Fishing gear will be provided and fishing coaches will be there to help kids catch fish. Programs on the Porch at Bowers Mansion - Friday, June 7, 2024, 7 p.m. This year's presentations are the "Variety Edition." The show today is "History of Wild Horses in NV." Bowers Mansion is located at 4005 U.S. Highway 395 North in Washoe Valley. Bring a blanket or low-back chair. Presentations are free, with donations accepted and appreciated. There are 2 more shows in the 2024 series; on June 14 and June 21. Food Truck Friday - Reno Street Food - opening Friday, June 7, 2024. Come to Reno's Idlewild Park for an evening of fun, music, and lots of good things to eat and drink from Reno's fleet of food trucks. It's free to come enjoy the park from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., but the food and drink are for sale. Reno Street Food will be every Friday through August 30, 2024. No Dogs. Go to "Food Trucks and Food Truck Events in Reno and Sparks" for information about more food truck events. Street Vibrations Spring Rally - Friday through Sunday, June 7 - 9, 2024. The annual event will feature live entertainment, bike games, competition ride-in shows, poker run, dozens of vendor booths, and participant parties for registrants. The event is open and free to the public and will be centered up in Virginia City. Reno Harley-Davidson and Battleborn Harley-Davidson will host open houses and special promotions. Free Fishing Day in Nevada - Saturday, June 8, 2024. During the annual Free Fishing Day, anglers may fish in any public fishing water in the state without needing a fishing license or trout stamp. All limits and other regulations apply. Locally, Sparks Rotary Club is sponsoring a free fishing day at Sparks Marina, plus other fun activities. It's from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. All kids are invited and fishing gear will be provided while supplies last. Free Adventure Day 2024 at Nevada State Parks - June 8, 2024. In celebration of the state's natural beauty and recreational opportunities, entrance fees will be waived for all visitors at every Nevada State Park. This special event provides an excellent opportunity for residents and tourists alike to explore the diverse landscapes and outdoor activities that Nevada's 27 state parks have to offer. All other park fees still apply. 2024 Reno/Sparks Walk ALS - Saturday, June 8, 2024. Check-in at 10:30 a.m., walk start at 12 noon. The walk is at Sparks Marina Park. All walk routes are wheelchair accessible and Walk Day activities include something for all ages. There is no fee to participate. You can register online. Nevada State Fair - Thursday through Sunday, June 13 - 16, 2024. The Nevada State Fair will be held at Mills Park in the Nevada state capital of Carson City. Family friendly as always, the event will have all the fun things to do fair goers have come to expect, from a midway carnival and rides to livestock and lots of entertainment. Fairgrounds entry and parking are free. Public Swimming Pools and Water Play Places - Many opening in June. Check out all of the water fun available in Reno, Sparks, and other places in Washoe County. When the heat's on, head for the water. Reno River Festival - Friday through Sunday, June 7 - 9, 2024. The annual Reno River Festival is at Wingfield Park in downtown Reno. This event has become one of the top draws among Reno's big spring, summer, and fall events. Attractions include live music, local craft beer, local food, local craft vendors, the Reno River Roll, a cornhole championship contest, the Great Reno River Rally, plus the thrills of the Reno Tahoe Adventure Park. General admission is $10 for all three days. Kids 17 and under are free. Hands ON! Second Saturday at the Nevada Museum of Art - Saturday, June 8, 2024. Come to the Nevada Museum of Art for fun for the whole family, including storytelling, art activities, live performances, and all current exhibits. Admission to the Museum is free for all on Second Saturdays. Summer Music Series at Lazy 5 Regional Park - Wednesday, June 12, 2024. Sierra Roc is the first concert of the 2024 series. Other concerts with a variety of entertainers will follow on Wednesday evenings through August 14. Concerts are free and begin at 6:30 p.m. Bring the family and a picnic to enjoy the show. No pets, smoking, vaping or glass containers allowed. Lazy 5 Regional Park is at 7100 Pyramid Way out in Spanish Springs. Quilt Show Reno - Thursday through Saturday, June 13 - 15, 2024. Quilt Show Reno includes a large vendor mall, workshops, lectures, make-it-take-it projects, free stage venues, demonstrations and presentations. At the Grand Sierra Resort, 2500 E. 2nd St. in Reno. Free parking. Hours 10 a.m. 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Harmony on the River - Thursday, June 13, 2024, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. At West Street Plaza by the Truckee River. Enjoy music from the Reno Phil, food trucks and beverages from Sierra Tap House. Sponsored by City of Reno, Reno Philharmonic and Sierra Tap House. Free, family-friendly event. Lawn chairs recommended. Event repeats on July 11, August 8, and September 12, 2024. Annual BBQ, Brews & Blues Festival - Friday and Saturday, June 14 - 15, 2024. Come sample the tastiest BBQ around. Sip on brew from over 50 microbreweries. Enjoy free live entertainment in downtown Reno. Friday 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday 12 noon to 10 p.m. Visit the website for more information and to buy tickets online. 21+ event. Reno Wine Walk - Saturday, June 15, 2024, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Riverwalk Merchants present this fun event every third Saturday of the month. Buy tickets online or visit one of the start locations with $30 and receive your wine glass and hand stamp (with photo ID), then make the rounds sampling wines at numerous businesses in the area. This is a 21+ event. Pets and strollers are not advised. For more information, call 775-825-WALK(9255). Junior Naturalist Program from Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation - Saturday, June 15, 2024, 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. This month we'll become "Storm Chasers" at Van Meter Park. Junior Naturalists will explore meteorology and geology with fun games and activities. This outdoor program is for kids of all ages and it's free. You can register online.
36th Annual Juneteenth Festival - Sunday, June 16, 2024, 12 noon to 5:30 p.m. Juneteenth (June 19) is the day African-Americans celebrate their independence. The Northern Nevada Black Cultural Awareness Society (NNBCAS) invites the entire community to join this celebration, which includes performers, vendors, food trucks, music, children's village and more. The event will be at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park in Reno.
Father's Day - Sunday, June 16, 2024. There are lots of fun things you can do to treat your Dad on his special day. First Day of Summer - Thursday, June 20, 2024. Reno Rodeo - Thursday through Saturday, June 20 - 29, 2024. The Reno Rodeo is a huge event with lots of activities and things to do for the whole family in addition to the rodeo itself. You don't need to be a buckaroo to enjoy the fun and action at the "Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West." This year marks the 105th anniversary of the Reno Rodeo. Carpe Diem Fishing Derby - Saturday, June 22, 2024, 8 a.m. to 12 noon. In collaboration with the restoration efforts of Rosewood Nature Study Area's natural wetlands, Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is hosting the second annual Carpe Diem Fishing Derby. This annual fishing derby is a great way to gather the community, fish, engage in an exciting tournament with prizes, participate in fun educational activities, and remove invasive species from the local wetlands. Participation is free, but you need to register online. No dogs. Galena Campfire Programs - Fridays, June 28 - August 2, 2024, 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Free family entertainment series at Galena Creek Regional Park (18250 Mt. Rose Hwy., Reno). Enjoy treats by the campfire starting at 7:30 p.m. The show today is Songs of the High Sierra with Tom Schemenauer performing. Wild Tahoe Weekend at Taylor Creek Visitor Center - Saturday and Sunday, June 29 - 30, 2024, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is free to attend. Join environmental groups and agencies at Taylor Creek Visitor Center in celebrating the flora and fauna of the Lake Tahoe Basin. Festivities include guided bird walks, presentations by wildlife experts, live music, kids crafts, games and more. Truckee Meadows Trail Days - Saturday, June 29, 2024, 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Trail Days will consist of light maintenance of trails throughout the Truckee Meadows. Visit the website for location. Training, tools and helmets will be provided. Future dates are July 27, Aug24ust and September 21. Sponsored by Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation. Volunteers needed - register here. Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival - June 28 - August 25, 2024. Come to Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe to enjoy Shakespeare performances and other entertainment. These shows are held in what's been called America's most beautiful venue.
