Summer Camps for Kids - Summer camps are starting. For the best choice and pricing, now is the time to get your kids signed up for the camps and activities they will enjoy during summer vacation. 2021 Summer Reading Challenge - June 1 through August 30, 2021. This year's theme is "Tails & Tales," and the Washoe County Library System has been reimagining the summer program to offer new virtual and interactive programming and services all summer. The program for young readers and pre-readers is geared towards helping young children build reading and language skills. The Library will also offer virtual programs to help motivate teens to read and discuss literature, and to encourage adults to experience the joy of reading. For other fun free stuff going on at the libraries, refer to "Free Events and Programs at Washoe County Libraries." Guided Walking Tours from HRPS - June, 2021 walking tours canceled. Reno Aces Baseball - Tuesday, June 1, 2021. June starts with a game against Tacoma at Greater Nevada Field, followed by a six game homestand vs. the Sacramento River Cats from June 3 to 8. Another six game homestand against Albuquerque will be June 17 - 22. Reno Restaurant Week - Wednesday to Wednesday, June 2 - 9, 2021. Come dine at more than 40 food and drink establishments (including breweries and distilleries) in Reno, Sparks and elsewhere in Northern Nevada. For Reno Restaurant Week, each establishment is serving a special cocktail, signature dish, prix fixe menu, tasting flight or something else. Net proceeds benefit three organizations: Reno Rodeo Foundation, STEP2 and The Eddy House. Dine the District Food Tour - Saturday, June 5, 2021, 1 p.m. The merchants of Reno's Riverwalk District have teamed up to provide guests a variety of entertainment, cooking demonstrations and culinary delights with the "Dine the District" self-guided food tour from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Online tickets are $40. Proceeds from the event will support the continued development of the Riverwalk District and help establish a safer, cleaner and more vibrant downtown area. RED Hosts Free Summer Kickoff Event at RED Park - Saturday, June 5, 2021, 12 noon to 3 p.m. Reno Experience District, (RED) will host a free Summer Kickoff at RED Park, now open to the public. The 2-acre RED Park has a large LED video display and an outdoor performance venue. The Summer Kickoff event will include food trucks, freshly brewed coffee from Coffeebar, craft beer kegs, yard games like giant jenga and corn hole, a live DJ and a photobooth. This is a family-friendly event, with arts and crafts workshops for kids, bubbles, sidewalk chalk and nerf football freebies. RED Park is at 2020 Roselite Drive in Reno (near the old Park Lane Mall). National Trails Day - Saturday, June 5, 2021. National Trails Day recognizes the incredible benefits of federal, state and local trails. Events held throughout the United States encourage people to discover their local trails and share their excitement for the outdoors. Nevada State Fair - Thursday through Sunday, June 3 - 6, 2021. The Nevada State Fair will be held at Mills Park in the Nevada state capital of Carson City. Family friendly as always, the event will have all the fun things to do fair goers have come to expect, from a midway carnival and rides to livestock and lots of entertainment. Fairgrounds entry and parking are free. Street Vibrations Spring Rally - Friday through Sunday, June 4 - 6, 2021. The annual event will feature live entertainment, bike games, competition ride-in shows, poker run, more than 80 vendor booths, and participant parties for registrants. The event is open and free to the public and will be centered in downtown Reno. Virginia City will host a poker walk, live entertainment, VIP bike parking and more. Reno Harley-Davidson and Battleborn Harley-Davidson will host open houses and special promotions. Mark Wellman's Adventure Day at Sparks Marina - Sunday, June 6, 2021, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A variety of adaptive sports will be featured at the free annual Mark Wellman's Adventure Day event at the Sparks Marina Park. People with disabilities and their friends and families are invited to try out hand-cycling, kayaking and rock climbing through the use of a broad range of adaptive equipment. Wellman himself will be there to assist and provide equipment for the climbing wall. Public Swimming Pools and Water Play Places - Many opening in June. Check out all of the water fun available in Reno, Sparks, and other places in Washoe County. When the heat's on, head for the water. Discover Your Parks Walks - through September 30, 2021. Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is leading free walks in different parks located in Washoe County. These walks start at 6 p.m. on Thursday evenings and vary in distance from half a mile to 2 miles. Each week, you can explore a new location and learn about the unique and varied ecology and history of parks in our area. Walks are open to all, but capacity is limited - register online from the website for each walk. Call (775) 453-0698 for more information. Feed the Camel - opening June 2, 2021. Come enjoy fun family evenings and get great food at the same time. "Feed the Camel" is on Wednesday evenings at McKinley Arts and Culture Center. Reno Street Food - Food Truck Friday - opening June 4, 2021. Come to Reno's Idlewild Park for an evening of fun, music, and lots of good things to eat and drink from Reno's fleet of food trucks. It's free to come enjoy the park from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., but the food and drink are for sale. Reno Street Food will be every Friday through August 27, 2021. No Dogs. Go to "Food Trucks and Food Truck Events in Reno and Sparks" for information about more food truck events. Broadway Comes to Reno at the Pioneer Center - season subscriptions go on sale Monday, June 7, 2021. Live performances are back at the Pioneer Center with the 2021 - 2022 season of Broadway Comes to Reno. Shows will include Hamilton, Fiddler on the Roof, Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats and Hadestown. Visit the website for show details and ticket pricing information. Quilt Show Reno - Thursday through Saturday, June 10 - 12, 2021. Quilt Show Reno includes a large vendor mall, workshops, lectures, make-it-take-it projects, free stage venues, demonstrations and presentations. At the Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks. Hours 10 a.m. 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Science Saturdays at the National Automobile Museum - Saturday, June 12, 2021. Join in on an adventure that is out of this world. Tickets are sold per family group starting at $36. Admission is limited to 8 groups. For participants age 8 and up. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. The event is from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pre-registration is required approximately two days before the event. Call the Museum at (775) 333-9300 for more information. Hands ON! Second Saturdays at the Nevada Museum of Art - Saturday, June 12, 2021. Come to the Nevada Museum of Art for fun for the whole family, including storytelling, art activities, live performances, and all current exhibits. Admission to the Museum is free for all on Second Saturdays, but you must visit the website to obtain advanced admission tickets and choose the time for your visit. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Reno River Festival - Saturday and Sunday, June 12 - 13, 2021. The annual Reno River Festival is at Wingfield Park in downtown Reno. This event is free to attend and has become one of the top draws among Reno's big spring, summer, and fall events. Whitewater kayaking competitions are the main reason for the Reno River Festival, but there is much more. Part of the Reno River Festival that is outside of the water, the Reno River Roll is a casual 5-mile costumed slow ride open to everyone and all types of bicycles. Other attractions include free entertainment on two stages, a Craft Beer Village, Wine Village, Reno Tahoe Adventure Park and lots more. Free Fishing Day in Nevada - Saturday, June 12, 2021. During the annual Free Fishing Day, anglers may fish in any public fishing water in the state without needing a fishing license or trout stamp. All limits and other regulations apply. Grand Opening - Zoom Room Dog Training in Reno Summit - Saturday, June 12, 2021. New dog training facility in south Reno is having its grand opening. Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Located at 13925 S. Virginia Street, Suite 200. (775) 391-0144. Discover Nevada State Parks Day - Saturday, June 12, 2021. Free day-use admission and free fishing at all Nevada State Parks. This statewide event encourages Nevadans to discover the many exciting and affordable recreation opportunities right in their own backyards. Discover Nevada State Parks Day is also an opportunity for visitors to take the passport challenge and add a stamp to their passport booklet or to pick one up while visiting any state park. Great Eldorado BBQ, Brews & Blues Festival - Postponed until 2022. Reno Rodeo - Thursday through Saturday, June 17 - 26, 2021. The Reno Rodeo is a huge event with lots of activities and things to do for the whole family in addition to the rodeo itself. You don't need to be a buckaroo to enjoy the fun and action at the "Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West." This year marks the 102nd anniversary of the Reno Rodeo. Reno Wine Walk - Saturday, June 19, 2021. The Riverwalk Merchants present this fun event every third Saturday of the month. Visit any of the participating merchants with $20 and receive your wine glass and hand stamp (with photo ID), then make the rounds sampling wines at numerous businesses in the area. This is a 21+ event. Pets and strollers are not advised. For more information, call 775-825-WALK(9255). Junior Naturalist Program from Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation - Saturday, June 19, 2021, 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. To celebrate both the halfway mark of our 2021 Junior Naturalist Program and the grand opening of the Rosewood Nature Study Area, we will be holding an in-person viewing party of our virtual program on June 19th at the Nature Study Area. After watching our video, we encourage you to go on a self-guided tour of the wetland. You can register online and pick your time to attend. 32nd Annual Juneteenth Celebration - Saturday, June 19, 2021, 12 noon to 3 p.m. Juneteenth is the day African-Americans celebrate their independence. The Northern Nevada Black Cultural Awareness Society (NNBCAS) invites the entire community to join this celebration with a festival of music, arts, food, basketball tournament, and entertainment. The free event will be at Dick Taylor Park, 1140 Beech Street in Reno. Father's Day - Sunday, June 20, 2021. There are lots of fun things you can do to treat your Dad on his special day. First Day of Summer - Monday, June 21, 2021. Summer Music Series at Lazy 5 Regional Park - Wednesday, June 23, 2021. The Snakeboy Johnson Band is the first concert of the series. Other concerts with a variety of entertainers will follow on Wednesday evenings through August 25. Concerts are free and begin at 6:30 p.m. Bring the family and a picnic to enjoy the show. No pets, smoking or glass containers allowed. Lazy 5 Regional Park is at 7100 Pyramid Way out in Spanish Springs. "Hello Summer Celebration" event at Rock Park - Wednesday, June 23, 2021, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The City of Sparks is kicking off summer with this event at Rock Park. The free event will feature music from local band White Water Retooled and food for purchase from a variety of food The event will be held at the east end of Rock Park, 1515 S. Rock Blvd. Parking is available at the park and the City of Sparks is offering a free shuttle from the southwest parking lot of Baldini's Sports Casino, 865 S. Rock Blvd. 2021 Galena Campfire Programs - every Friday June 25 to August 6, 2021, 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Join Washoe County Regional Parks and Open Space for a fun family program around the campfire. Each week will feature a different presenter for kids of all ages to enjoy. Bring the family out early for a picnic. Bring your own treats to enjoy around the campfire at 8 p.m. Eagle Meadow is located inside the north entrance to Galena Creek Regional Park at 18250 Mt. Rose Highway (Galena Creek Visitor Center entrance). The programs are free, but donations are welcome to help fund the program. Outdoor Escape Room at Bowers Mansion Regional Park - either Friday or Saturday, June 25 or 26, 2021. This is the first time we've offered this program. Choose to participate on either Friday (25th) or Saturday (26th) and plan on 1 to 3 hours to complete the activity depending on how leisurely you want to be. Answer riddles, hunt for clues, travel throughout two regional parks (Bowers Mansion and Davis Creek), and solve the final puzzle. Your adventure will begin on the front porch of the historic Bowers Mansion (anytime between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.). Sierra Arts Festival - Saturday, June 26, 2021, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sierra Arts Festival 2021 celebrates local artists at the downtown Reno City Plaza with a free all day outdoor, open air art market, music, family friendly entertainment, activities for kids, a beer garden, local food trucks and packed activities. Student Outreach Clinics from UNR - General and Pediatrics Clinic - Saturday, June 26, 2021, 8 a.m. to 12 noon. The Comprehensive/General Clinic provides general medical care, including complete physical exams and nutrition counseling. The Pediatric Clinic provides medical care for pediatric patients from newborns to teenagers. Clinics are by appointment only. Brigham Clinical Education Building, located at 123 17th St. and East Stadium Parkway.
