All Fools' Day - Saturday, April 1, 2023. Also known as April Fool's Day. Don't get caught being foolish.

WinterWonderGrass California - Friday through Sunday, March 31 - April 2, 2023. This event is at Palisades Tahoe. It's a winter bluegrass music and craft beer festival featuring over 20 bands, over a dozen breweries, and food and food trucks. This is a family-friendly event with activities for kids. The venue is the Village at Palisades Tahoe ski resort, south of Truckee off Highway 89.

"Expedition: Dinosaur" at the Wilbur D. May Museum - January 14 through April 30, 2023. An interactive exhibit at the Wilbur D. May Museum at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park in Reno. This exhibit will feature 11 animatronic dinosaurs, interactive excavation stations, and a fossil stamp scavenger hunt. Special group rates are available. This will be an exhibit of Jurassic proportions. The entry fee is $10 for adults, $9 for children 3 to 17 and seniors. Kids under 3 are free. Hours at the Wilbur D. May Museum are Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 12 noon to 4 p.m. The museum is closed on Monday and Tuesday.

The Passion according to St. Matthew by J. S. Bach - Musicians and Choral Soloists of the Toccata-Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will perform selections from Part II of Bach's Masterpiece, 'The Passion According to St Matthew.' Tickets are sold online for each performance.

Surviving Midtown: A Panel Discussion - Sunday, April 2, 2023, 12 noon. The owners of three businesses discuss the challenges of keeping their businesses going during major street construction and redesign on South Virginia Street, followed by the Covid pandemic, which forced business owners to change how they operated facing restrictions, construction barriers and customer health and safety concerns. Baby Animal Days and Tulip Festival at Andelin Family Farm - Wednesdays through Saturdays, April 5 to May 6, 2023. Wednesday and Thursday, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission includes access to the tulip U-pick fields, petting zoo area, and all the barnyard games and activities, including our newly expanded ziplines. There is an egg hunt on Friday and Saturday, April 7 - 8. There are a variety of tickets options available online. The farm is at 8100 Pyramid Way in Sparks. (775) 530-8032.

Reno Mimosa Day Crawl - Saturday, April 8, 2023, noon to 6 p.m. This is something a bit different - an afternoon event. The event will have prizes for group costumes, feature 13 stops in downtown Reno, have limited tickets that will probably sell out, and start at The Eddy to take advantage of the outdoors. Mimosa Day will be a chance to soak up some rays in a relaxed atmosphere where we can all enjoy some good bubbly, listen to some tunes and stroll around hitting up our favorite bars. Hands ON! Second Saturday at the Nevada Museum of Art - Saturday, April 8, 2023. Come to the Nevada Museum of Art for fun for the whole family, including storytelling, art activities, live performances, and all current exhibits. Admission to the Museum is free for all on Second Saturdays.

Nevada Humane Society's Heels and Hounds Gala - Saturday, April 8, 2023, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Put on your best brunch outfit and get ready to make a difference for our community's homeless pets, hosted at Peppermill Resort. The event features a champagne brunch, shopping from local vendors, entertainment, silent and live auctions, and a fashion show with Reno-based models strutting the catwalk. Of course, anyone looking to take home their furry soulmate will have the chance to adopt a dog or cat. Tickets available online.

Free Easter Egg Hunts - Saturday and Sunday, April 8 - 9, 2023. There are several free Easter Egg hunts around Reno and up at Lake Tahoe on this Easter weekend. Some of these are big productions. Check out my list to find one near you.

Easter Brunch and Dining - Sunday, April 9, 2023. You don't have to cook up a big meal on this holiday. Enjoy Easter Sunday brunch or dinner at any of several venues around the Reno / Sparks area.

Reno Riverwalk Wine Walk - Saturday, April 15, 2023. The Riverwalk Merchants present this fun event every third Saturday of the month. The April theme is "Downtown Disco." Tickets available online. This is a 21+ event. Pets and strollers are not advised. For more information, call 775-825-WALK(9255).

2023 Junior Naturalist Program - Saturday, April 15, 2023, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Junior Naturalist Program from Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is a free outdoor program for children of all ages to learn about local plants and animals. The program for April is "Master Foragers" and it will be at Valley Wood Park in northwest Reno. Kids will discover how to make practical things sustainably foraged in nature. Naturalists will discover how animals (including humans!) search for wild food resources, or forage, for what they need to survive. You must register online to attend this free program.

Bruka Theatre for Children: "The Paramount & Sometimes Wildly Ridiculous History of Nevada" - Saturday, April 15, 2023, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. In this whimsical, wild, and abridged journey through the history of Nevada, children are invited to participate in the performance. Funny and insightful, this theatre troupe features top-notch professional actors and a small set of props and costumes. Presented for free at the South Valleys Library by Pioneer Center Youth Programs. Registration is recommended. Space is limited and priority will be given to those who are registered.e

Farm Day at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park - Sunday, April 16, 2023, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join us for a free family fun filled day in the Nevada Farms and Families area, next to the Wilbur D. May Museum. Meet farm animals, join a huge scavenger hunt, visit our many partner tables with activities, grab a drink and snack from Short Tail coffee, and have fun in the park. Rancho San Rafael Regional Park is at 1595 N. Sierra Street in Reno.

Discover Science Lecture by Eva Pell - Thursday, April 20, 2023, 7 p.m. In this lecture, plant pathologist and author Dr. Eva Pell will share less well-known stories about the extraordinary Smithsonian Institution and how her work there as the Under Secretary for Science expanded her understanding and interest in the natural world and all its challenges. The lecture is free, but you are asked to register to attend.

World Trails Film Festival

- Thursday, April 20, 2023, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The World Trails Film Festival will hold its North American public premiere at the Nugget Casino Celebrity Showroom. The program will showcase six films with each one coming from a different country. Proceeds from the festival will be used to support Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation. Tickets are $15 and available online.

Monster Jam in Reno - Friday through Sunday, April 21 - 23, 2023. Enjoy the excitement and action at this big monster truck show comes to the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center, 1350 N. Wells Avenue. Visit the website for times, online tickets and lots more information.

Free Admission to National Parks - Saturday, April 22, 2023. On the first day of National Park Week, it's free admission to all parks and other sites operated by the National Park Service. This includes parks around the west like Yosemite, Lassen Volcanic, Death Valley, and Great Basin. Other fees, such as for overnight camping and cabin rentals, will still apply. Be sure to check if your park of choice is open.

Earth Day - Saturday, April 22, 2023.

Reno Earth Day Celebration - Saturday, April 22, 2023. Come to Idlewild Park between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to enjoy Reno's big annual Earth Day celebration. There will be numerous events, exhibitors, food and drink, live entertainment, and activities for both kids and adults. "Frozen" the ballet at the Pioneer Center - Saturday and Sunday, April 22 - 23, 2023. Frozen, the ballet, is the captivating story of the Snow Queen written by Hans Christian Andersen. When their kingdom becomes trapped in a perpetual winter, Alana joins forces with mountaineer Kai to find Alana's sister, Snow Queen Ella, and break the icy spell. 8 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Northern Nevada Science & Technology Festival - April 23 - 28, 2023. This is a week-long community celebration of the innovation happening in our region. The festival will inspire and connect our community with the power of science and technology through hands-on school programs as well as a series of free, family-friendly events hosted by well-known formal and informal educational organizations throughout Northern Nevada. Annual Reno Jazz Festival - Thursday through Saturday, April 27 - 29, 2023. With our full schedule of varied events, from quality performance reviews to big-name concerts, we aim to inspire and educate the next generation of jazz musicians. Discover Your Parks Free Walks - Saturday, April 29, 2023. Enjoy in-person Discover Your Parks Walks during 2023. They occur at various times from April through September. The next is at Rosewood Nature Study Area. Visit the web page for a full list. Attendance is limited and you must register to participate.

KTMB Great Community Clean-Up - Saturday, April 29, 2023, 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Join Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB) for the annual Great Community Cleanup. This event focuses on the cleanup of illegal dump sites and noxious weeds in the open spaces surrounding the Truckee Meadows. Every year over 700 volunteers come together to clean up our community. You will be able to choose from over 20 sites throughout the Truckee Meadows open-spaces. There will be a volunteer appreciation picnic after the clean-up with free food and drink. Culture Fest at Sierra View Library - Saturday, April 29, 2023, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Join us for a day of free performances, arts and crafts, and family-friendly activities for all ages in honor of Day of the Book/Day of the Child. Enjoy food trucks, booths, and cultural enrichment for all. Sierra View Library is in the Reno Town Mall, corner W. Peckham Ln. and S. Virginia St.

52nd Annual Virginia City Grand Prix - Saturday and Sunday, April 29 - 30, 2023. Experience legendary racing in historic Virginia City where thousands of motocross riders challenge themselves in the surrounding hills. Racing takes place both days. Attending the event is free. This being Virginia City, there will be lots of related activities and things to do while the motocross racers are zipping through town and around the rugged high desert.
