Fall Break at Washoe County Schools - Monday through Friday, October 1 - 5, 2018. Fall break activities for children and families around Reno and Sparks include camps and other things to do from several area organizations.

Find Your Trail - 50th Anniversary of the National Trails System - Tuesday, October 2, 2018, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. You are invited to join the Bureau of Land Management, Carson City District, the National Pony Express Association, and Nevada State Parks for an educational event at Fort Churchill State Historic Park commemorating the Pony Express National Historic Trail. The event will feature a meet-and-greet with local riders and horses who participate in the annual Pony Express Re-Ride, a mochila exchange, Chautauqua presentations, live music, and other family-friendly activities. Park entrance fees will be waived for this event.

Wolf Pack Football - Saturday, October 6, 2018. The Nevada Wolf Pack football team takes on the Fresno State Bulldogs in a conference game at Mackay Stadium. Kick-off time is TBA. Go Pack!

Holi Festival of Colors - Saturday, October 6, 2018, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Enjoy and afternoon of interactive dance, live mantra bands, DJs, yoga teachers, cuisine, free hugs and lotsa love. People bury their hatchets with a warm embrace and throw their worries to the wind. Everyone is covered with colors (red, green, yellow, blue, black and silver). People sing, dance and throw colors on each other. Tickets are $6.50 online, $8 at the gate. Kids 12 and under free. The event is as Rancho San Rafael Regional Park in Reno.

Reno Hop Fest - Saturday, October 6, 2018, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Come enjoy 10 local brews by 9 different breweries using hop varieties grown at the Main Station Field Lab. Vote for your favorite brew and help a local brewery win the $1,000 prize! Bid on beautiful gift baskets in the silent auction. 21+ event. At the Idlewild Park Terrace in Reno.

Fall Fish Festival - Saturday and Sunday, October 6 - 7, 2018. Bring the family to this free annual event celebrating a variety of fish species that live in Lake Tahoe and surrounding streams. It is held every October at Taylor Creek Visitor Center on the south end of Lake Tahoe. The Fall Fish Festival includes lots of activities to help children and parents learn about the Lake Tahoe environment and have fun doing it. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

World Championship Outhouse Races in Virginia City - Saturday and Sunday, October 6 - 7, 2018. The Races pit teams of costumed outhouse racers against each other. One person rides and the remaining team members push, pull or drag the decorated outhouses down the racetrack, which is C Street in Virginia City. This event is free to the public and is quite the spectacle. To participate, get a 3 person team together and register online. Registration closes on September 28, 2018.

Eldorado Great Italian Festival - Saturday and Sunday, October 6 - 7, 2018. It's free to attend the Great Italian Festival, when downtown Reno becomes Little Italy. This is a fun, family-friendly festival, with street performers, free music from two stages, plenty of good food and drink, and lots more. Hours on Saturday are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Lincoln Highway Tweed Ride - Sunday, October 7, 2018, starting at 10 a.m. A tweed ride is part group bike ride, part costume party, and part historical tour. We invite everyone to break out their dapperest of historical fashion (but it isn't required) and join us for a family-friendly bike ride from the Depot in Reno (325 E. 4th Street) to Victorian Plaza in Sparks. Sponsored by Truckee Meadows Bike Alliance along with City of Reno and City of Sparks.

Reno Bites Restaurant Week - Monday through Sunday, October 8 - 21, 2018. Explore and enjoy locally owned restaurants. The week offers prix fix menus, specialty items and price points and exceptional food-based events. Restaurant week is about getting out to eat and the overall experience each restaurant and chef provides.

Free Family Health Festival - Monday, October 8, 2018, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Truckee Meadows Healthy Communities (TMHC) in collaboration with the Washoe County School District, Food Bank of Northern Nevada, Washoe County Health District, Community Health Alliance, Renown, and other partners is hosting a Family Health Festival at O’Brien Middle School, 10500 Stead Blvd. in Reno. The event brings free and low-cost services to kids, students, adults and seniors while supplies last.

"Bell, Book & Candle" at Bruka Theatre - October 12 - 13, 17 - 20, 24 - 27, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. on October 14, 21, 28, 2018. This play is a comedy and kicks off Bruka Theatre's 26th season. Tickets in advance are $20 general, $18 student / senior / military. All tickets at the door are $25.

Fall Fest Craft Fair - Saturday and Sunday, October 13 - 14, 2018, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free to this craft fair at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, 34 Reservation Road in Reno. The fair will feature over 60 vendors offering jewelry, beadwork, arts and crafts, quilts, blankets, willow baskets, baked goods, raffle, food and fun.

Lake Tahoe Marathon - Friday through Sunday, October 12 - 14, 2018. This is actually a series of several running events. There will be lots going on at this family-friendly event. Refer to the Calendar of Events for all the details.

Redrun VI: Bloodline - Saturday, October 13, 2018. Redrun is a team scavenger hunt that will take place in the heart of Virginia City. Run for your life as the zombie apocalypse engulfs the haunted town of Virginia City. Redrun takes you through chilling landmarks like cemeteries, old tunnels, mining bunkers, and through the middle of this living ghost town. Visit the Redrun website to register online and get all the details.

Hands ON! Second Saturdays - Saturday, October 13, 2018. Come to the Nevada Museum of Art for a day of fun family activities and free admission for all. Participate in hands-on art projects, storytelling and museum tours. October has a Halloween theme - "Día de los Muertos." Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Science Saturday at the National Automobile Museum - Saturday, October 13, 2018. "Mining the Moon" is this month's topic. Admission is $12 per person for children and adults, which also includes admission to the National Automobile Museum. For participants age 8 and up. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is required approximately two days before the event. Call the Museum at (775) 333-9300 for more information.

Wolf Pack Football - Saturday, October 13, 2018. The Nevada Wolf Pack football team takes on the Boise State Broncos in a conference game at Mackay Stadium. Kick-off time is 7:30 p.m. Go Pack!

Truckee River Cleanup Day - Saturday, October 13, 2018, 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Hundreds of volunteers are needed for this massive cleanup and beautification effort throughout the Truckee River watershed, including trash pick-up, invasive weed removal, storm drain stenciling, graffiti removal and park beautification projects. You can sign up online and choose the area where you would like to volunteer. This effort is brought to us by Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful and a host of private business and government agency sponsors.

Aviation Roundup Airshow - Saturday and Sunday, October 13 - 14, 2018. This big show will be at Minden-Tahoe Airport in the Carson Valley, south of Carson City. In addition to a large number of airshow performers, the Aviation Roundup will feature the U.S. Navy Blue Angels as the headliner. A ticket is required for each day. Kids 11 and under are free. Reno Mini Maker Faire - Sunday, October 14, 2018, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker Movement. People of all ages and backgrounds - scientists, artists, students, programmers, musicians, and more - will come together to show what they are making and share what they have learned along the way. The Reno Mini Maker Faire aims to encourage curiosity and creativity, to entertain and inform, and to connect and grow the community of makers in Northern Nevada. At Wingfield Park in downtown Reno. Kids 12 and under are free. Adults are $5 in advance and $10 at the door.

2018 Great Nevada ShakeOut - Thursday, October 18, 2018, 10:18 a.m. Nevada lies within one of the most seismically active regions in the United States. Along with California and Alaska, Nevada ranks in the top three states subject to the most large-scale earthquakes during the last 150 years. The Great Nevada ShakeOut is a simple, coordinated "drop, cover and hold on" exercise. Last year, more than 590,000 Nevadans participated. To register as an individual, business, school or government agency or organization, go to the official website. All Nevada residents are encouraged to register and participate.

Day Out with Thomas - Friday through Sunday, October 19 - 21 and 26 - 28, 2018. This family event offers aspiring engineers and their families the opportunity to take a ride with the classic storybook engine along with fun activities for the entire family. Activities will be at the V&T Railroad Depot in Virginia City and include a 25-minute train ride behind Thomas the Tank Engine™, temporary tattoos, face painting, story telling, videos, train play tables, mini golf, coloring caboose, meet and take photos with Sir Topham Hatt, and shop at the Thomas store. Tickets can be purchased online, by calling 866-468-7630, and at the Virginia City Depot.

Reno Zombie Crawl - Saturday, October 20, 2018. The Reno Zombie Crawl is one of the top 10 costumed Halloween parties in the nation, attracting around 20,000 undead to prowl the of downtown Reno. Enjoy thousands of dollars worth of costume contest prizes and drink specials at over 55 bars, clubs, restaurants and taverns. It's only $5 to join in. You can buy cups online or at the start bar on the night the zombies stalk the streets.

Early Voting for the 2018 General Election - Saturday, October 20, 2018. Early voting begins today and runs through Friday, November 2, 2018. Check "2018 General Election in Washoe County and Nevada" for more information and a link to early voting locations and times. Remember, you can early vote at any polling place, but you must vote in your own precinct on Election Day, which is Tuesday, November 6, 2018.

2018 Beer & Chili Festival - Saturday and Sunday, October 20 - 21, 2018, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. both days (VIP tickets get you in an hour earlier at noon). Featuring chili samples and other menu specialties from local restaurants. A wide array of local and national brews will also be available. Festival admission and entertainment are free, but you have to buy the tasting packages. The event is at the Grand Sierra Resort, 2500 E. 2nd Street in Reno.

PumpkinPalooza - Sunday, October 21, 2018, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Celebrate all things pumpkin at Victorian Square in downtown Sparks at the 2018 Pumpkin Palooza. This free event is a great way to family fun for Halloween.

Run for Education - Sunday, October 21, 2018, 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Competitive athletes to novice runners are invited to participate in 10K/5K runs, Sparks Marina March, or the 1/2 Mile Kids Fun Run at this annual community-wide event. In addition to the running events, the Fitness Fair has activity-themed stations, such as bike rodeo, soccer, climbing, golf, archery, gymnastics, and more. This annual event raises funding for the Kids in Motion program with 100% of sponsorship dollars impacting students and schools through the Education Alliance of Washoe County and focusing on physical and academic fitness. The event will be in front of Scheels at the Outlets at Legends, 1200 Scheels Drive in Sparks.

Full Moon Hike at Washoe Lake State Park - Tuesday, October 23, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Join park staff for a guided full moon walk through the park’s Day Use Area. This easy walk is less than a mile and will include the opportunity to listen for owls and other park wildlife. Participants should bring an extra layer of clothing, water, and a flashlight. Advance reservations are required for this hike. Reservations can be made by calling (775) 687-4319 or e-mailing wlsp@parks.nv.gov. The entrance fee to Washoe Lake State Park is $5 per vehicle. There is no additional charge for this program.

Washoe CASA Foundation Book-tober Fair - Wednesday through Friday, October 24 - 26, 2018. Join the Washoe CASA Foundation at Barnes & Noble for our Book-tober Fair. Mention our code in person or online at checkout and a portion of your purchases will go towards helping local children who have experienced abuse or neglect. Barnes & Noble is at 5555 S. Virginia St. in Reno.

80th Annual Nevada Day Parade - Saturday, October 27, 2018. Nevada Day is America's largest statehood celebration. Nevada Day activities and celebrations are centered in Carson City. Parade activities begin at 8 a.m. and the marching starts at 10 a.m. There lots of Nevada Day activities to enjoy, not just the parade. It's a big, family-friendly party in Carson City.

Monthly Reno Beer Crawl - Saturday, October 27, 2018. This event is in downtown Reno where all of the participating bars, pubs, and restaurants are within walking (or crawling) distance. It costs $5 to participate and you can just show up at one of the start bars - advance tickets not required. Crawling is from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Halloween - Wednesday, October 31, 2018. Haunted houses, trick-or-treating, pumpkin patches, and much more. The Reno area does Halloween in a big way and there are plenty of activities for everyone in the family, including a few for adults only.
