Daylight Saving Time ends - Sunday, November 1, 2015. Set clocks back 1 hour. Reno Career and Resource Fair - Tuesday, November 3, 2015. Come from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and find your next great opportunity. This event is free and open to all education and skill levels. Connect with employers to discuss professional opportunities, seasonal jobs, internships, and more. Get resume help and practice your interview skills. The Fair will be at the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows, 2680 E. 9th Street in Reno. BIGGEST little Theatre Festival at Brüka Theatre - Wednesday through Sunday, November 4 - 8, 2015. Enjoy one or all five plays at Reno's downtown live performance theater. Visit the website for the schedule of dates, times, and plays. Tickets are $10 each or a package of 5 for $40. For information and reservations, call (775) 323-3221. Off Beat Arts and Music Festival - Thursday through Sunday, November 5 - 8, 2015. This first-ever festival will feature over 90 bands, disc jockeys, and singer-songwriters at 13 venues around town. Most acts are local, but some are coming from San Diego, Los Angeles, Long Beach, Oakland, San Francisco, and Portland. Two venues are all-ages, the others being 21+. There are various ticket options depending on what you want to see and do. Ticket information is available online. Reno Veterans Day Parade - Wednesday, November 11, 2015. Honor our troops and enjoy this parade of ROTC groups from regional high schools, university and high school marching bands, honor guards and other groups representing all the services, other groups wanting to honor the military service of our veterans, and groups representing various veterans' organizations. The parade traditionally gets underway at 11:11 a.m. and marches down Virginia Street through downtown Reno. Reno Bighorns Basketball - Friday, November 13, 2015. The Reno Bighorns open their season at the Reno Events Center with a game against the Los Angeles D-Fenders. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. Truckee Meadows Ski Swap for Sky Tavern - Friday and Saturday, November 13 - 14, 2015. The swap will be at the Siena Hotel in downtown Reno at 1 South Lake Street. Rooms of new and used winter gear will be for sale at great prices - skis, boards, boots and clothes. First Track sales are Friday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. with $20.00 admission. Free with college ID or Sky Tavern Membership. Doors open Saturday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. $2 individual or $5 family entry. Still free with college ID or Sky Tavern membership. All sales benefit community efforts to get kids outside and on the slopes. Wolf Pack Football - Saturday, November 14, 2015. The Nevada Wolf Pack football team takes on the San Jose State Spartans at Mackay Stadium in Reno. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Go Pack! Hands ON! Second Saturdays - Saturday, November 14, 2015. Come to the Nevada Museum of Art for a day of fun family activities and free admission for all. The theme on this Second Saturday is "Local Landscapes," related to the "Tahoe: A Visual History" exhibition. Enjoy free admission and activities at the Museum. Participate in hands-on art projects and storytelling. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monster Fish at The Discovery - opens Saturday, November 14, 2015. UNR researcher and Nat Geo Wild television star Dr. Zeb Hogan brings his big fish exhibit to The Discovery. This outstanding exhibit was first shown at the National Geographic Museum in Washington, DC. "Monster Fish: In Search of the Last River Giants" features life-size sculptures, hands-on interactive exhibits, and videos that put you face-to-face with more than 20 species, each at least six feet long and weighing more than 200 pounds. Science Saturdays at the National Automobile Museum - Saturday, November 14, 2015. Join in on the adventures that are out of this world, with "Saturn V to Star Trek: Science Fact & Fiction in Space Exploration." Admission is $12 per person for children and adults, which also includes admission to the Museum. For participants age 8 and up. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is required approximately two days before the event. Call the Museum at (775) 333-9300 for more information. Library Book Sale - Saturday through Sunday, November 14 - 22, 2015. Read Again Bookstore, a function of Friends of Washoe County Library, holds several book sales during the year. Sales are in the book store next door to the Sierra View Library in the Reno Town Mall. A day for Friends members only is on Friday, November 13, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. If you aren't a member, you can join at the door. All other days are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Polar Express on the V&T Railroad - First trip in 2015 is on Thursday, November 19. Plan ahead - getting advance tickets is a must for those wanting to ride the Polar Express to the North Pole this holiday season. Reno-Tahoe Senior Winter Games - Sign-ups for the 2016 Winter Games begin on Monday, November 16, 2015. The Winter Games will be from January 30 through February 14, 2016. UNR Ski Swap - Friday and Saturday, November 20 - 21, 2015. The UNR Ski Swap is the place to buy used winter sports and recreation gear and sell the stuff you no longer need or use. The event will be at the Siena Hotel, 1 South Lake Street in Reno. Get information about times and tickets from the website. If you want to be a seller, visit Sell Your Stuff for details. The event is a fund raiser for the UNR Winter Sports Club. Reno ComiCrawl - Saturday, November 21, 2015. According the organizers' website, this crawl has been canceled. Wizard World Reno Comic Con - Friday through Sunday, November 20 - 22, 2015. Pop culture comes to life at Comic Con. Come see many of your favorite stars and celebrities, along with exhibitors, photo and autograph apps, and more. The show will be at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, 4590 S. Virginia Street. You can get advance tickets online. Meet the Turkeys Family Open House at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park - Saturday, November 21, 2015. Celebrate the season of the turkey by bringing the family to Rancho San Rafael Regional Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This free event will include horse and pony rides provided by Lorie's Pony Express for $5, farm animals from G's Farm, and the Discovery Room will be open. Bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. Bring your camera for fall and Thanksgiving photos with the turkeys.Lights Up at The Summit - Saturday, November 21, 2015. The Lights Up celebration will include the official lighting of The Summit's holiday decorations and tree, a live concert by JamPro Music Factory students, a fireworks show, giveaways, enter-to-win prize packages and a special "First Gift of Christmas" presentation by Santa. Stop by the Reno Aces tent to learn about the Reno Ice Skating Rink. Say hello to Archie and get a voucher for free skate rental. The event will be at Center Plaza near Vans and Tilly's, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Summit is at the corner of Mt. Rose Highway and S. Virginia Street. Tipsy Turkey Wine Walk - Saturday, November 21, 2015. The Riverwalk Merchants present this fun event every third Saturday of the month. In November, it's themed for Thanksgiving and costumes are encouraged. Visit any of the start locations with $20 and receive your wine glass and hand stamp (with photo ID), then make the rounds sampling wines at numerous businesses in the area from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. This is a 21+ event. Pets and strollers are not advised. For more information, call (775) 825-WALK (9255). Home 4 the Holidays Craft Fair - Saturday, November 21, 2015. Home 4 the Holidays Craft Fair will feature a wide variety of local vendors selling handcrafted art, jewelry, and many pet related gifts and pet supplies that will make great holiday gifts for the animal lovers on your shopping list. Artists who participate will be contributing a percentage of their sales to help the homeless pets at Nevada Humane Society. Event is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 2825 Longley Lane in Reno. (775)856-2000 x335. Reno Ice Skating Rink - Tuesday, November 24, 2015. The rink opens for the 2015-2016 season with some special activities and fun. Skating opens to the public at 6 p.m. Check out the "Reno Ice Skating Rink Schedule" for dates and times during the rest of the winter season. Pie it Forward Bake Sale - Sunday, November 22, 2015. This bake sale, a fundraising event for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, will be at the Peppermill, 2707 S. Virginia Street in Reno. Get fresh baked pumpkin pies for only $5. Pies will be available for purchase from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in front of the Sportsbook on the casino floor. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Food Bank. Thanksgiving Day Weekend - Thursday, November 26, 2015. There are lots of things to do on Thanksgiving Day and throughout the Thanksgiving weekend. Dining Out on Thanksgiving Day - Thursday, November 26, 2015. Reno area hotel/casinos and some restaurants put on big spreads for Thanksgiving dinner. Check these out if eating out sounds better than cooking all day and then cleaning up. Magic of Christmas Parade - Friday, November 27, 2015. This is a long-time tradition here at Shoppers Square. Come to this free event at 11 a.m. and see holiday characters, marching bands, and more at Reno's only Christmas parade. The big finale will feature a visit from the big man himself, Santa Claus. Shoppers Square is at the corner of S. Virginia Street and E. Plumb Lane in Reno. Crafts for Christmas - Friday through Sunday, November 27 - 29, 2015. Come to The Nugget in Sparks to shop among over 100 craft and gift booths at this annual marketplace. Enjoy cooking, cocktail, and floral arranging demonstrations. Santa will visit and there will be activities for kids. Buttcracker 6 - Underland - Friday and Saturday, November 27 - 28, 2015. Matinee at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 29. Brüka Theatre presents the ridiculous parody: "Buttcracker 6 – Underland," based on the holiday favorite "The Nutcracker." Suggested for ages 8 and up. Advance tickets are $20 for students, seniors and military, $22 general admission. All tickets are $25 at the door. Shows start at 8 p.m. Reservations are available through the box office at (775) 323-3221. Tickets available online from Brown Paper Tickets. Pray for Snow Beer Crawl - Saturday, November 28, 2015. Join the fun for a special edition of the monthly Reno beer crawl. Added attractions will include and 80s costume contest, snow bunny contest, raffle, snow calling competition, and samples of Tahoe Blue vodka. This event is in downtown Reno where all of the participating bars, pubs, and restaurants are within walking (or crawling) distance. It costs $5 to participate and you can just show up at one of the start bars - advance tickets not required. Crawling is from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Small Business Saturday - Saturday, November 28, 2015. Forget the Black Friday shopping frenzy after Thanksgiving. Use your shopping time and dollars to support locally owned businesses in the Reno area - keep your money here in the Truckee Meadows to improve our own economy and support your friends and neighbors rather than faceless corporations sucking money out of Nevada. PTSD Discussion Group Meetings - Wednesdays, November 18 and 25, 2015, 6 p.m. VFW Post 9211 is sponsoring a PTSD discussion group that meets at the historic "Battle Born" bunker post every 2nd and 4th Wednesday. All individuals with a diagnosis of PTSD are invited to join this group. This is NOT restricted to veterans or VFW members. Any member of the community is invited, including civilians and service persons such police, firefighters, and medical personnel.
