March is... SnowFest! at North Lake Tahoe - through March 10, 2019. SnowFest is a ten day winter carnival celebrating life in the High Sierra, with events and activities for all ages. Snow events will be at Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Homewood, Diamond Peak, and Northstar California. See what's happening and when with the SnowFest Events Calendar. Student Outreach Clinics from UNR - Saturday, March 2, 2019, 8 a.m. to 12 noon. The Women's Clinic provides medical care aimed specifically at female concerns. This includes services such as Pap smears, breast exams, STD counseling, pregnancy tests, and physical exams for both gynecological and non-gynecological concerns. Pregnancy care is not offered at this time. It is free to be seen at the clinics, but certain referrals may not be covered and the cost is the patients' responsibility. Donations are gladly accepted, with the traditional donation being $5. All clinics are held at the Family Medicine Center on the University of Nevada, Reno campus, located at the corner of 17th St. and East Stadium Way, northeast of Mackay Stadium. (775) 682-8646. Consumer Fraud Prevention Fair - Monday, March 4, 2019, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Fair, sponsored by Nevada Consumer Affairs, will help you learn about steps you can take to avoid becoming a victim. To learn about protecting yourself and what to do if you become a victim, several resource booth vendors will be on hand to impart helpful information, plus there will be panel discussions. The Fair is free and will be at the Reno Town Mall, 4001 S. Virginia Street in Reno. (775) 684-1910. Gardening in Nevada: The Bartley Ranch Series - Tuesday, March 5, 2019. This free class is titled "Training and Pruning Fruit Trees," presented by Certified Arborist and Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Michael Janik. He will discuss the basics of fruit tree pruning, pruning to maximize production and more. Classes are from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bartley Ranch Regional Park in Reno. Other Tuesday classes this month will be on March 12, 19 and 26. Roses are Rad Winter Film Festival - Friday, March 8, 2019. This is the culmination of a video contest sponsored by Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe. The best videos will be chosen to to be featured in the event, which will be hosted at Cargo, Whitney Peak Hotel in downtown Reno. Tickets are $10 pre-sale or $13 day of (all ticket proceeds donated to Sierra Avalanche Center). Doors open at 6 p.m., films start at 7 p.m. Science Saturdays at the National Automobile Museum - Saturday, March 9, 2019. Join in on an adventure that is out of this world. Admission is $12 per person for children and adults, which also includes admission to the Museum and free refreshments. For participants age 8 and up. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. The event is from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pre-registration is required approximately two days before the event. Call the Museum at (775) 333-9300 for more information. Hands ON! Second Saturdays - Saturday, March 9, 2019. Come to the Nevada Museum of Art for a day of fun activities and free admission for all. The program is new each month and frequently related to a current exhibit. Enjoy live performances, hands-on art activities and storytelling in this free monthly program for families. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Reno 1868 FC Soccer - Saturday, March 9, 2019, 1:45 p.m. Reno's professional soccer team will open the 2019 season at Greater Nevada Field against the Orange County SC. The next game is on March 16 vs. Austin Bold FC, followed by a game on March 30 vs. OKC Energy FC. Daylight Saving Time Begins - Sunday, March 10, 2019. Set your clocks forward at 2 a.m. on Sunday morning. If you don't plan on being awake then, do it before going to bed on Saturday night. Discover Science Lecture Series - Thursday, March 14, 2019. Dr. Karen Lloyd, deep sea marine scientist, studies novel groups of microbes in Earth's deep surface biosphere. Her free lecture will be at 7 p.m. in the Redfield Auditorium in the Davidson Mathematics and Science Center on the University of Nevada, Reno campus. "The Wizard of Oz" at the Pioneer Center - Friday through Sunday, March 15 - 17, 2019. There truly is no place like home as the greatest family musical of all time, the wonderful "Wizard of Oz," twists its way into Reno. The entire family will be captivated as they travel down the Yellow Brick Road and beyond with Dorothy, Toto and their friends the Cowardly Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow in this lavish production. Ticket sales begin on February 11 at 11 a.m. The Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts is at 100 S. Virginia Street in downtown Reno. Reno Expo 2019 - March 14 - 17, 2019. This big event is actually 4 shows for one ticket. All will run simultaneously at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, 4590 S. Virginia Street in Reno. Admission is only $10 (cash only) for all four shows. $5 for seniors 60+. Thursday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Leprechaun Crawl - Saturday, March 16, 2019. Here's a terrific way to do St. Patrick's Day. Come out to the Leprechaun Crawl and you'll find bars packed with awesome people, you'll meet new friends and you'll all have something in common because you're dressed up for the same thing. Crawling is from 8 p.m. to 4 p.m. and includes drink specials at over 25 downtown Reno locations, drink specials, no covers, photo booth, hotel discounts, and more. It's only $5 to get a participation cup and crawl map. 28th Annual Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry - Saturday, March 16, 2019, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Go up to Virginia City for this popular event. Cooks from around the west fry, smoke or grill these delectable concoctions in a way that will make you forget what you're really eating. This is also the day for the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade (starts at 12 noon), a part of the whole St. Patrick's Day weekend of activities, which include the Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry, the Ball Breaker Saloon Crawl, music, costume contest and beer garden. Reno Wine Walk - Saturday, March 16, 2019. The Riverwalk Merchants present this fun event every third Saturday of the month. Visit any of the participating merchants with $20 and receive your wine glass and hand stamp (with photo ID), then make the rounds sampling wines at numerous businesses in the area. Lots of parties and green beer all around the Reno / Tahoe region. Check this article to learn about parties and other fun St. Patrick's Day activities. Leprechaun Race - Sunday, March 17, 2019, 8:30 a.m. See if you can beat the leprechaun to the finish line on this fun race through Reno's Midtown and Wells Avenue districts. This is a family-friendly 5K event. Last day to drop off registration in person is Thursday, March 14. Online registration closes Wednesday, March 13. There will be no race day registration. The Leprechaun Race is a benefit for the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum. Come in from the Cold Family Entertainment Series - Weekly performances through March 16, 2019. "Come in from the Cold" is held on Saturday evenings in the Western Heritage Interpretive Center at Bartley Ranch Regional Park in Reno. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. with performances starting at 7 p.m. Seating is limited to 200, so arriving early at this popular event is a good idea. A donation of $3 per person is requested to help support this and other park programs. Ag Day 2019 at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park - Tuesday, March 19, 2019, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Join Washoe County Parks and the Nevada Department of Agriculture for a free day of agriculture fun at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park in Reno. Interactive displays and games will be available teaching kids about plants, bugs, and much more. Ag Day 2019 will also include a petting zoo with bunnies, turkeys, chickens and many more animals. First Day of Spring - Spring begins with the Equinox on Wednesday, March 20, 2019. Model Dairy and the History of Ranching and the Dairy Industry - Wednesday, March 20, 2019. Neil Brooks shares the story of two pioneer families, the Peckhams and the Taylors, that helped establish the ranch and dairy industry in Reno over a century ago. This free program is brought to you by the Historic Reno Preservation Society. It is one of a series, with others scheduled in April and May. At Northwest Reno Library, 2325 Robb Drive, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monster Jam - Friday through Sunday, March 22 - 24, 2019. Giant truck action and much more come to the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center. Show times are an hour after gates open times, which are 6 p.m. on Friday, 12 noon and 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Visit the website for online tickets and more information. Monthly Reno Beer Crawl - Saturday, March 23, 2019. This event is in downtown Reno where all of the participating bars, pubs, and restaurants are within walking (or crawling) distance. It costs $5 to participate and you can just show up at one of the start bars - advance tickets not required. Crawling is from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Reno Express Indoor Football - Saturday, March 23, 2019, 7 p.m. Reno's newest professional sports team is known as the Reno Express. It is an indoor football team that will play its games in the downtown Reno Events Center, 400 N. Center St. The team's season opening home game will be against the Tri-Cities Fire out of Kennewick, WA. Tickets can be purchased at the Reno Events Center box office or the Silver Legacy box office. Underground Reno and the Train Trench - Sunday, March 24, 2019. The excavation required to create the Reno train trench unearthed 83 archaeological sites (81 historic and two pre-historic), which together tell a story of 5,000 years of continuous human habitation near the banks of the Truckee River. This free program is brought to you by the Historic Reno Preservation Society. It is one of a series, with others scheduled in April and May. At Downtown Reno Library, 301 S. Center Street, 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Washoe County Schools Spring Break - March 25 to April 5, 2019. Check out all of the cool spring break camps and other fun activities happening during this break in the school action. There are lots of choices, so check it out and sign up early for the best selection of activities and camps. WinterWonderGrass California - Friday through Sunday, March 29 - 31, 2019. This is the 5th annual event in Squaw Valley. It's a winter bluegrass music and craft beer festival featuring over 20 bands, over a dozen breweries, and food and food trucks. This is a family-friendly event with activities for kids. The venue is the Village at Squaw Valley ski resort, south of Truckee off Highway 89.
