Big events during June, 2017 include...
Summer Camps for Kids - Summer camps are starting. For the best choice and pricing, now is the time to get your kids signed up for the camps and activities they will enjoy during summer vacation. Reno Aces Baseball - Thursday, June 1, 2017. The Reno Aces' first home game in June at Aces Ballpark will be vs. the Las Vegas 51s, followed by 11 more home games during the month. Other opponents will include the Tacoma Rainiers. Two games are on Fridays, which will feature fireworks after the game. Reno Craft Beer Week - Friday through Sunday, June 2 - 10, 2017. A group of pubs, restaurants and breweries in and around northern Nevada are bringing us a series of events and parties to celebrate beer. Some associated events include Backwash at the Freight House District next to Greater Nevada Field (formerly Aces Ballpark), Strange Brew Festival, Bottomless Craft Beer Brunch at The Depot, and lots more all week. Check out the website for all event dates and details. Street Vibrations Spring Rally - Friday through Sunday, June 2 - 4, 2017. The annual event will feature live entertainment, bike games, competition ride-in shows, poker run, more than 80 vendor booths, and participant parties for registrants. The event is open and free to the public and will be centered in downtown Reno. Virginia City will host a poker walk, live entertainment, VIP bike parking and more. Chester's Reno Harley-Davidson will host open houses and special promotions. Library Book Sale - Saturday through Sunday, June 3 - 11, 2017. Read Again Bookstore, a function of Friends of Washoe County Library, holds several book sales during the year. Sales are in the book store next door to the Sierra View Library in the Reno Town Mall. A day for Friends members only is on Friday, June 2, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. If you aren't a member, you can join at the door. All other days are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Epic Fandom Crawl - Saturday, June 3, 2017. Come crawl Reno dressed in your favorite cosplay costume from the movies, video games, TV, sci fi, fantasy or whatever. Bring your lightsabre to participate in a massive battle in downtown Reno before starting the crawl. Visit the website for all the details. Check out "Beer Crawls in Reno" for information about more events like this, including the famous Reno Santa Crawl in December. Slide the City - Saturday, June 3, 2017. Slide the City is a family friendly slip-and-slide water party event. There will be live music, food, drinks, water, and the biggest slip and slide ever to hit asphalt. The padded slide is 1000 feet long. Bring your water buckets, floaties, and water guns (non-realistic), to squirt, spray, splash, and get all attending soaked. Visit the website for pricing and check out the FAQ for sliding rules and other information. Hemp & Cannabis Fair - Saturday and Sunday, June 3 - 4, 2017. Come to a celebration of legal marijuana. There will be hemp products, accessories and tools, grow and harvest equipment and more at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. Attend sessions on growing, medicinal benefits, legal Q&As and more. Hours are Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Weekend pass is $15. Public Swimming Pools and Water Play Places - Check out all of the water fun available in Reno, Sparks, and other places in Washoe County. When the heat's on, head for the water. Discover Your Parks Walks - June 1 through September 28, 2017. Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is leading free walks in different parks located in Washoe County. These walks start at 7 p.m. on Thursday evenings and vary in distance from half a mile to 2 miles. Each week, you can explore a new location and learn about the unique and varied ecology and history of parks in our area. Walks are open to all. Call (775) 453-0698 for more information. Reno-Tahoe Odyssey - Friday and Saturday, June 2 - 3, 2017. This is a 178 mile running relay race that starts and finishes in Reno. Teams of up to 12 runners complete a big circle that includes climbing up to Lake Tahoe. Two sub-sections of the whole race will be run simultaneously on June 3 - the Capital Odyssey Relay from Carson City and the Comstock Odyssey Relay from Virginia City. To sign up and get all the details, visit the Reno-Tahoe Odyssey website. EuroFest at the Sands Regency - Friday through Sunday, June 2 - 4, 2017. This free Oktoberfest themed event will feature lots of free live music, dancing, authentic European food, craft vendors, and many taps pouring a variety of Old World beers. The Sands Regency is located at 345 N. Arlington Avenue in Reno. May Arboretum Society Annual Plant Sale - Saturday, June 3, 2017. Come shop for unique plants, hard-to-find varieties and native plants that will grow in our climate zone. Over 3,000 plants to choose from. The sale will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the May Arboretum and Botanical Garden in Reno's Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. Horticulturists will be on hand to answer your plant growing questions. Guided Walking Tours from HRPS - Saturday, June 3, 2017. The first guided walking tour in June from the Historic Reno Preservation Society will be "Beyond the Arches." Several more walks are scheduled for Tuesdays and Saturdays in June, plus a Sunday bike tour. Join in to learn about many aspects of Reno's colorful history. Tour de Nez - Saturday, June 10, 2017. Professional bicycle criterium racing, handcycle racing and other events come to downtown Reno. This is a great spectator event with lots to see and do. For fun, there will be events like the Kids Race and Vintage Bike Lap. Racing starts at 7:30 a.m. and goes all day to the championship finals in the evening. Nevada State Fair - Thursday through Sunday, June 8 - 11, 2017. The Nevada State Fair will be held at Mills Park in the Nevada state capital of Carson City. Family friendly as always, the event will have all the fun things to do fair goers have come to expect, from a midway carnival and rides to livestock and lots of entertainment. Fairgrounds entry and parking are free. 2017 Octane Fest - Friday through Sunday, June 9 - 11, 2017. Several different high-powered events are sure to get your adrenaline pumping. Events include IMCA Modifieds racing, top fuel drag racing, demolition derby, a jamboree with monster trucks, truck and tractor pull, freestyle motocross and fireworks finale. Events are at different venues in Fallon, 60 miles east of Reno/Sparks. Visit the Octane Fest schedule for all the details. Science Saturdays at the National Automobile Museum - Saturday, June 10, 2017. Join in on an adventure into the future - "Driving Electric Vehicles." Admission is $12 per person for children and adults, which also includes admission to the Museum and free refreshments. For participants age 8 and up. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. The event is from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pre-registration is required approximately two days before the event. Call the Museum at (775) 333-9300 for more information. Kids Free Fishing Day - Saturday, June 10, 2017. Kids Free Fishing Day at Sparks Marina Park gives them the opportunity to catch their first fish. Free fishing poles for all kids who register. Fishing will be from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sponsored by Rotary Club of Sparks. During Nevada's annual Free Fishing Day, anglers may fish in any public fishing water in the state without needing a fishing license or trout stamp. All limits and other regulations apply. Hands ON! Second Saturdays - Saturday, June 10, 2017. Come to the Nevada Museum of Art for a day of fun family activities and free admission for all. The theme varies for each Second Saturday, but there are always arts and crafts for kids and other special activities. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Discover Nevada State Parks Day - Saturday, June 10, 2017. Free admission to all 23 Nevada State Parks. This statewide event encourages Nevadans to discover the many exciting and affordable recreation opportunities right in their own backyards. Discover Nevada State Parks Day is also an opportunity for visitors to take the passport challenge and add a stamp to their passport booklet or to pick one up while visiting any state park. Summer Music Series at Lazy 5 Regional Park - Wednesday, June 14, 2017. This concert will be Americana with a Hint of Country by Apothic. Other concerts with a variety of entertainers will follow on Wednesday evenings through August 9. Concerts are free and begin at 6:30 p.m. Bring the family and a picnic to enjoy the show. No pets or glass containers allowed. Lazy 5 Regional Park is at 7100 Pyramid Way out in Spanish Springs. Reno Rodeo - Thursday through Saturday, June 15 - 24, 2017. The Reno Rodeo is a huge event with lots of activities and things to do for the whole family in addition to the rodeo itself. You don't need to be a buckaroo to enjoy the fun and action at the "Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West." Great Eldorado BBQ, Brews & Blues Festival - Friday and Saturday, June 16 - 17, 2017. The Great Eldorado BBQ, Brews and Blues Festival is equal parts barbecue block party, microbrew tasting event with more than 50 microbrews from around the world and music festival with two stages featuring nonstop rock and blues. It's free to attend and enjoy the sights, sounds, and music in downtown Reno, but you'll have to bring money for the brews and BBQ. Mini BioBlitz at Hidden Valley Regional Park - Saturday, June 17, 2017, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Experts specializing in insects, birds, plants, mammals, and reptiles will explore the parks with the goal of identifying as many species as possible. Researchers will lead groups of community volunteers through Hidden Valley Regional Park to help collect data and gain a better understanding of biodiversity in the Truckee Meadows. (310)-469-8971. 29th Annual Juneteenth Celebration - Saturday, June 17, 2017. Juneteenth is the day African-Americans celebrate their independence. The Northern Nevada Black Cultural Awareness Society (NNBCAS) invites the entire community to join this celebration with a festival of music, arts, ethnic food, crafts, and entertainment. The event will be in Wingfield Park in downtown Reno. Reno Wine Walk - Saturday, June 17, 2017. The Riverwalk Merchants present this fun event every third Saturday of the month. Visit any of the participating merchants with $20 and receive your wine glass and hand stamp (with photo ID), then make the rounds sampling wines at numerous businesses in the area. This is a 21+ event. Pets and strollers are not advised. For more information, call 775-825-WALK(9255). Father's Day - Sunday, June 18, 2017. There are lots of fun things you can do to treat your Dad on his special day. US Open of Watercross at Sparks Marina - Saturday and Sunday, June 17 - 18, 2017. It's a great family outing and free to spectators. The US Open of Watercross draws top competitors worldwide in pursuit of the US Open title. Spend Father's Day weekend at Sparks Marina and enjoy great racing. Ready. Set. Explore: "Walk with Washoe" - Tuesday, June 20, 2017. Free guided walking hikes through Washoe County’s parks and trails. This walk is 2 miles from Mayberry to Dorostkar Parks. Others in the series will be on July 18, August 1, 15, 29, September 5, 19 and October 3, 17. All walks start at 6:30 p.m. Bring the family and get active together while exploring nature through all the scenic parks and trails Washoe County has to offer. First Day of Summer - Wednesday, June 21, 2017. Monthly Reno Beer Crawl - Saturday, June 24, 2017. This event is in downtown Reno where all of the participating bars, pubs, and restaurants are within walking (or crawling) distance. It costs $5 to participate and you can just show up at one of the start bars - advance tickets not required. Crawling is from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Last Friday in Sparks - June 30, 2017. The City of Sparks has teamed up with the Sparks Museum and Cultural Center for a special event the last Friday of the month through September. Visitors can experience the museum, tour the train and Glendale Schoolhouse for free with docents on hand for tours. Free movies are scheduled in the amphitheater starting at 8:15 p.m. Local bands will play on the Great Basin Stage at 7:30 p.m. 2017 Kids' Summer Reading Program - June 1 through August 31, 2017. Go to one of your Washoe County Library branches to sign up. Kids earn points and collect badges for doing all kinds of stuff over the summer, like reading, playing games, going to library programs and experiencing things in your community. For other fun free stuff going on at the libraries, refer to "Free Events and Programs at Washoe County Libraries." Artown Opening Night Jubilee - Saturday, July 1, 2017. This big free event in Wingfield Park starts the 22nd annual Artown festival in Reno. Come enjoy an evening of free music and other activities, then enjoy Artown events throughout the whole month of July. PTSD Discussion Group Meetings - Wednesdays, June 14 and 28, 2017, 6 p.m. VFW Post 9211 is sponsoring a PTSD discussion group that meets at the historic "Battle Born" bunker post every 2nd and 4th Wednesday. All individuals with a diagnosis of PTSD are invited to join this group. This is NOT restricted to veterans or VFW members. Any member of the community is invited, including civilians and service persons such police, firefighters, and medical personnel including EMT's and paramedics. This discussion group IS NOT formal therapy and is based on the original model of gatherings of Vietnam veterans before PTSD was recognized as a treatable condition by the VA or civilian medical community.
