Big events during July, 2019 include... Artown Opening Night - Monday, July 1, 2019. This big free event in Wingfield Park starts the annual Artown festival in Reno. Come enjoy an evening of free music and other activities, then enjoy Artown events throughout the whole month of July. The opening night headliner will be Paul Thorn and New Breed Brass Band. The show starts at 7:30 p.m., but get there early if you want a good seat - park opens at 5 p.m. Guided Walking Tours from HRPS - Tuesday, July 2, 2019. The first guided walking tour in July from the Historic Reno Preservation Society will be "Truckee River Walk" at 6 p.m. Several more walks are scheduled for Tuesdays and Saturdays in July, plus a Sunday tour. Join in to learn about many aspects of Reno's colorful history. Reno 1868 FC Soccer - Wednesday, July 3, 2019, 7:15 p.m. Reno takes on the Rio Grande Valley FC. Come root for Reno's pro soccer team and enjoy an evening of soccer action at Greater Nevada Field. The next home game is on July 27 vs. the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. 4th of July Fireworks and Celebrations - Thursday, July 4, 2019. Get out and enjoy an Independence Day weekend at any of numerous fireworks shows and other 4th of July activities in Reno, Sparks, Virginia City, and up at Lake Tahoe. Reno Aces Baseball - Thursday, July 4, 2019. The Reno Aces' first home game in July is on Independence Day vs. the Sacramento River Cats. Enjoy a great 4th of July fireworks show after this game. There will be 15 more home games during the month. Other opponents will include the El Paso Chihuahuas, Tacoma Rainiers and Iowa Cubs. Biggest Little City Wingfest - Friday and Saturday, July 5 - 6, 2019. Downtown Reno will host the 7th Annual Biggest Little City Wing Fest. This event brings over 80,000 attendees and serves over 20,000 pounds of chicken wings. This year's event will feature finger lickin' chicken wings, free live entertainment on outdoor stages, street faire vendors and local celebrity wing judges. Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival - Friday, July 5, 2019. The 2019 Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival runs from July 5 through August 25. This 47th season of the Festival features two main plays ("The Taming of the Shrew" and "Million Dollar Quartet") in addition to all of the other shows and activities making up this exceptional event at Sand Harbor on the shores of Lake Tahoe. Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series at the Brewery Arts Center - Saturday, July 6, 2019, 7 p.m. Featuring The Novelists and Kara Grainger. These are all free shows. The public is invited to bring their own picnics, blankets and lawn chairs to the concerts, which will have an open setting. There will be food trucks, drink vendors and kid's activities at every concert. The Levitt AMP concert series is located at 449 West King Street at the corner of King and Minnesota Streets. More shows this month are The Mother Hips on July 13, Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience on July 20, and Josh Hoyer and Soul Colossal on July 27. American Century Championship - Tuesday through Sunday, July 9 - 14, 2019. The 30th annual American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament will be at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course near South Lake Tahoe and Stateline. See more than 80 entertainment and sports celebrities, including Jerry Rice and Bode Miller. Other players have been Charles Barkley, Larry the Cable Guy, Roger Clemens, John Elway, Andre Iguodala, Heather LeMaster, Dan Quayle, Bret Saberhagen, Joe Theismann, Michael Waltrip, and many, many more. Discount tickets available at Raley's, Bel-Air, and Nob Hill stores. The event benefits the Stowers Institute for Medical Research. Discover Your Parks Walks - Thursday, July 11, 2019. Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is leading free walks in different parks located in Washoe County from April through September, 2019. This first July walk will be at Virginia Lake Park. Others will be on July 18 and 25. Walks start at 6 p.m. Reno Art Fest 2019 - Friday through Sunday, July 12 - 14, 2019. This event during Artown takes place in downtown Reno on N. Virginia Street between 4th and 6th Streets. It includes the Circus Circus 24-hour Mural Marathon, an artists sale, Cre8tive Zone of interactive art fun, performance by Controlled Burn and a Friday night street party opening celebration. Reawakening the Great Basin: A Native American Arts and Culture Gathering - Saturday, July 13, 2019, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony comes together with the Nevada Museum of Art at "Hands ON! on Second Saturday" to celebrate Native American art, culture, community, and tradition. This is a free Artown event. Science Saturdays at the National Automobile Museum - Saturday, July 13, 2019. Join in on an adventure that is out of this world. Admission is $12 per person for children and adults, which also includes admission to the Museum and free refreshments. For participants age 8 and up. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. The event is from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required approximately two days before the event. Call the Museum at (775) 333-9300 for more information. Wanderlust Festival at Squaw Valley - Thursday through Sunday, July 18 - 21, 2019. The 11th annual Wanderlust Festival returns to Squaw Valley. The world-famous festival offers a weekend of wellness and rejuvenation set among the Sierra Nevada mountains. The event features renowned yoga instructors, activities like SUP yoga and silent disco, concerts, inspiring speakers and healthy fare. Tickets are available online. Reno Garlic Fest - Saturday, July 20, 2019, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. This event is free and part of Artown. The RGF is a fun and family-friendly event celebrating local food and local growers. Come to buy organically grown garlic, enjoy live music, and learn how you can grow your own garlic. You can eat garlicky foods, including garlic ice cream. At Pat Baker Park, N. Montello Street in Reno. Riverwalk Vinegogh Wine Walk - Saturday, July 20, 2019, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Riverwalk Merchants present this fun event every third Saturday of the month. For Artown, it will be the Vinegogh Wine Walk. Visit any of the participating merchants with $20 and receive your wine glass and hand stamp (with photo ID), then make the rounds sampling wines at numerous businesses in the area. This is a 21+ event. Pets and strollers are not advised. For more information, call 775-825-WALK(9255). 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11 at the National Automobile Museum - Saturday, July 20, 2019, 9:30 a.m. to 2;30 p.m. Celebrate one of the greatest events of all time - the first manned landing on the Moon in 1969. There will be multiple lunar events and special presentations at the NAM. In the afternoon starting at 5 p.m., the venue switches to the Fleischmann Planetarium and Science Center on the UNR campus, where you will be able to watch moon movies and enjoy the Moonlight Lounge. 18th Annual Art Paws - Sunday, July 21, 2019. Art Paws is Artown's only event specially for pets (i.e., dogs) and their people. The event is free, featuring pet contests and demonstrations. More than 40 artists, crafters and animal related vendors and non-profit animal organizations will be present. Silent auctions, raffle prizes, live music, and a beer garden for the humans. All proceeds go to 3 local animal charity groups. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at McKinley Arts and Culture Center, 925 Riverside Drive in Reno. Barracuda Championship PGA Golf - Monday through Sunday, July 22 - 28, 2019. Enjoy Reno's PGA golf tournament, the only one in northern Nevada. The tournament at Montrêux Golf & Country Club offers lots of family-friendly activities in addition to the golf. This is a charity event with live television coverage on The Golf Channel. The purse is $3.5 million. "Disco Fever" with Note-Able Music Therapy Services (NMTS) - Thursday, July 25, 2019, 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The Note-Ables will perform hits from the Disco era, featuring local guest artists and more than 60 participants of all ages and abilities from NMTS' music and dance programs. Enjoy food and beverages from local vendors. Kids will have plenty of fun with games on the lawn, a bubble station and face painting. NMTS will create an atmosphere of fun while inviting the community to embrace their differences as well as their commonalties through music. At McKinley Arts and Culture Center, 925 Riverside Dr. in Reno. Admission is a suggested donation of $5. Night in the Country Music Festival - Thursday through Saturday, July 25 - 27, 2019. Nevada's longest running country music festival is held in Yerington. This year, the festival will bring in big-name artists with Luke Combs, Brothers Osborne, Aaron Watson, Whiskey Myers, The Wild Feathers, Read Southall Band, Travis Denning, Jobe Fortner and lots more. The main stage will feature several acts each night. There is on-site camping and lots of partying at the Full Moon Saloon. (775) 463-5114. 2019 Carson City Fair - Friday through Sunday, July 26 - 28, 2019. Featuring 4-H and FFA youth, agriculture, antique tractors, a carnival, vendors, entertainment, demolition derby and more. The event is at Fuji Park, 601 Old Clear Creek Road in Carson City. Check the Schedule of Events for details. Monthly Reno Beer Crawl - Saturday, July 27, 2019. This event is in downtown Reno where all of the participating bars, pubs, and restaurants are within walking (or crawling) distance. It costs $5 to participate and you can just show up at one of the start bars - advance tickets not required. Crawling is from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Northern Nevada Pride Parade and Festival - Saturday, July 27, 2019. The parade begins at 10 a.m. and will travel down California Avenue starting at Hill and ending at the festival. The festival will be at Wingfield Park with entertainment on two stages until 6 p.m. Admission is a $5 donation. Everyone is invited. Proceeds benefit the local LGBT community center. Sparks / Reno Water Lantern Festival - Saturday, July 27, 2019, 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. At Sparks Marina Park, 300 Howard Drive in Sparks. This is a family friendly event that can be shared by everyone. Friends, families, neighbors, and lots of people that you haven't met can come together to create a peaceful, memorable experience. Water Lantern Festival brings people together to Light The Water in a magical night that includes food, music, and beauty as the lanterns reflect upon the water. Tickets available online. Lucas Oil Off Road Night Race - Saturday, July 27, 2019. Don't miss your chance to see one of the final races of the Off Road season at the Wild West Motorsports Park just east of Sparks off I80 at Mustang exit 23. The grandstands at this park offer unobstructed views of the track. Main gate opens at 4 p.m. Ready. Set. Explore: "Walk with Washoe" - Tuesday, July 30, 2019. Free guided walking hikes through Washoe County’s parks and trails. This walk is from the Slide Mountain Trailhead. Others in the series will be on August 20, September 17 and October 1. Bring the family and get active together while exploring nature through all the scenic parks and trails Washoe County has to offer. Artown Closing Night Celebration - Wednesday, July 31, 2019. The free closing night party will be from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Wingfield Park Glenn Little Amphitheater. Join Artown in closing out the month's festivities with Squirrel Nut Zippers and its quirky mix of jazz chords, folk music, and punk rock leanings.
