Big events during July, 2018 include... Artown Opening Night - Sunday, July 1, 2018. This big free event in Wingfield Park starts the 23rd annual Artown festival in Reno. Come enjoy an evening of free music and other activities, then enjoy Artown events throughout the whole month of July. The opening night headliner will be Los Lobos. The show starts at 7:30 p.m., but get there early if you want a good seat - park opens at 5 p.m. Also performing on July 1 will be Bandaloop, a pioneer in vertical performance. They will do their vertical dance from Reno City Hall, viewable from City Plaza next to the Virginia Street Bridge. Performances will be at 5 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Artown - Sunday through Tuesday, July 1 - 31, 2018. Reno becomes Artown during all of July. Artown 2018 is the 23rd anniversary of this multi-faceted event, bringing Reno residents and visitors a month's worth of music, art, dance and other cultural experiences. There are nearly 500 individual events, exhibits and workshops, with over 70% of the events and performances free. The big Opening Night party on July 1 begins in Wingfield Park at 5 p.m. Reno 1868 FC Soccer - Tuesday, July 3, 2018, 7:25 p.m. Reno takes on the Real Monarchs SLC. Come root for Reno's pro soccer team and enjoy an evening of soccer action at Greater Nevada Field. Guided Walking Tours from HRPS - Tuesday, July 3, 2018. The first guided walking tour in July from the Historic Reno Preservation Society will be "Historic Truckee River Walk" at 6 p.m. Several more walks are scheduled for Tuesdays and Saturdays in July, plus a Sunday tour. Join in to learn about many aspects of Reno's colorful history. Dragon Lights - Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Garden Illuminated - June 30 to August 5, 2018. Dragon Lights Reno will bring larger-than-life, fully-illuminated lanterns, as well as Chinese cultural performances and authentic handicrafts to the May Arboretum and Botanical Garden. There are a variety of tickets available, both online and at the door. The event is at Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Garden in Rancho San Rafael Regional Park at 1595 N. Sierra Street in Reno. 4th of July Fireworks and Celebrations - Wednesday, July 4, 2018. Get out and enjoy an Independence Day weekend at any of numerous fireworks shows and other 4th of July activities in Reno, Sparks, Virginia City, and up at Lake Tahoe. Reno Aces Baseball - Wednesday, July 4, 2018. The Reno Aces' first home game in July is on Independence Day vs. the Sacramento River Cats. Enjoy a great 4th of July fireworks show after this game. There will be 11 more home games during the month. Other opponents will include the Tacoma Rainiers and Las Vegas 51s. Discover Your Parks Walks - Thursday, July 5, 2018. Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is leading free walks in different parks located in Washoe County from April through September, 2018. This first July walk will be at Hidden Valley Regional Park. Others will be on July 12, 19 and 26. Walks start at 6 p.m. Biggest Little City Wingfest - Friday and Saturday, July 6 - 7, 2018. Downtown Reno will host the 6th Annual Biggest Little City Wing Fest. This event brings over 80,000 attendees and serves over 20,000 pounds of chicken wings. This year's event will feature finger lickin' chicken wings, free live entertainment on outdoor stages, street faire vendors and local celebrity wing judges. Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival - Friday, July 6, 2018. The 2018 Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival runs from July 6 through August 26. This 46th season of the Festival features two main plays ("Macbeth" and "Beehive, the 60s Musical") in addition to all of the other shows and activities making up this exceptional event at Sand Harbor on the shores of Lake Tahoe. American Century Championship - Tuesday through Sunday, July 10 - 15, 2018. The 29th annual American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament will be at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course near South Lake Tahoe and Stateline. See more than 80 entertainment and sports celebrities, including Jerry Rice and Bode Miller. Other players have been Charles Barkley, Larry the Cable Guy, Roger Clemens, John Elway, Andre Iguodala, Heather LeMaster, Dan Quayle, Bret Saberhagen, Joe Theismann, Michael Waltrip, and many, many more. Discount tickets available at Raley's, Bel-Air, and Nob Hill stores. The event benefits the Stowers Institute for Medical Research. "Evenings on the Ranch" - Wednesday, July 11, 2018. This family entertainment series will be at Bartley Ranch Regional Park in Reno. Historic ranch tours begin at 6 p.m. and the programs start at 7 p.m. There will be a different entertainer each Wednesday evening through August 1, 2018. A $3 donation is requested. (775) 828-6612. Science Saturdays at the National Automobile Museum - Saturday, July 14, 2018. Join in on an adventure that is out of this world - "Making Space Art." Admission is $12 per person for children and adults, which also includes admission to the Museum and free refreshments. For participants age 8 and up. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. The event is from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required approximately two days before the event. Reawakening the Great Basin: A Native American Arts and Culture Gathering - Saturday, July 14, 2018, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony comes together with the Nevada Museum of Art at "Hands ON! on Second Saturday" to celebrate Native American art, culture, community, and tradition. This is a free Artown event. Library Book Sale - Saturday through Sunday, July 14 - 22, 2018. Read Again Bookstore, a function of Friends of Washoe County Library, holds several book sales during the year. Sales are in the book store next door to the Sierra View Library in the Reno Town Mall. A day for Friends members only is on Friday, July 13, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. If you aren't a member, you can join at the door. All other days are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 18th Annual Art Paws - Sunday, July 15, 2018. Art Paws is Artown's only event specially for pets (i.e., dogs) and their people. The event is free, featuring pet contests and demonstrations. More than 80 artists, crafters and animal related vendors and non-profit animal organizations will be present. Silent auctions, raffle prizes, live music, and a beer garden for the humans. All proceeds go to 3 local animal charity groups. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at McKinley Arts and Culture Center, 925 Riverside Drive in Reno. Ready. Set. Explore: "Walk with Washoe" - Tuesday, July 17, 2018. Free guided walking hikes through Washoe County’s parks and trails. This walk is 1.5 miles at the Regional Archery Facility. Others in the series will be on August 21, September 18 and October 2. All walks start at 6:30 p.m. Bring the family and get active together while exploring nature through all the scenic parks and trails Washoe County has to offer. Thursday, July 26, 7:30 p.m. This special walk in the series is a Moonlight Walk at Crystal Peak Park. Meet at the main parking lot. Reno Citizens Institute - sign-up deadline is July 18, 2018. The Reno Citizens Institute (RCI) answers many of the questions you may have about how government works in the City of Reno, Nevada. RCI is a nine week course (plus the graduation ceremony) covering a variety of Reno city government functions. The program is offered free to Reno citizens. Reno Garlic Fest - Saturday, July 21, 2018, 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This event is free and part of Artown. The RGF is a fun and family-friendly event celebrating local food and local growers. Come to buy organically grown garlic, enjoy live music, and learn how you can grow your own garlic. Children can draw garlic and eat garlicky foods, including garlic ice cream. At Pat Baker Park, N. Montello Street in Reno. Riverwalk Vinegogh Wine Walk - Saturday, July 21, 2018. The Riverwalk Merchants present this fun event every third Saturday of the month. For Artown, it will be the Vinegogh Wine Walk. Visit any of the participating merchants with $20 and receive your wine glass and hand stamp (with photo ID), then make the rounds sampling wines at numerous businesses in the area. This is a 21+ event. Pets and strollers are not advised. For more information, call 775-825-WALK(9255). 2018 Carson City Fair - Wednesday through Sunday, July 25 - 29, 2018. Featuring 4-H and FFA youth, agriculture, antique tractors, a carnival, vendors, entertainment, and more. The event is at Fuji Park, 601 Old Clear Creek Road in Carson City. Check the Schedule of Events for details. Night in the Country Music Festival - Thursday through Saturday, July 26 - 28, 2018. Nevada's longest running country music festival is held in Yerington. This year, the festival will bring in big-name artists with Cole Swindell, Brett Young, Morgan Evans, Tim Montana, Brett Eldredge and lots more. The main stage will also feature several acts each night. There is on-site camping and lots of partying at the Full Moon Saloon. (775) 463-5114. Note-Able Music Therapy Services' Birthday Bash - Thursday, July 26, 2018, 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Note-Able Music Therapy Services (NMTS) will be hosting its annual Artown event. This year marks the 15th anniversary of NMTS, so we're celebrating with a Birthday Bash. It will be an inclusive and accessible evening of entertainment for all ages on the lawn at McKinley Arts and Culture Center, 925 Riverside Dr. in Reno. Music, dancing, food and beverage, and activities for the kids. $5 donation suggested. Reno Pride Rainbow Crawl - Friday, July 27, 2018. Crawl Reno is teaming up with Northern Nevada Pride to pre-party with a giant bar crawl the night before the 2018 Reno Pride Parade and Festival. Crawling starts at 8 p.m. and goes all night. Enjoy drink specials, contests, free entry into the clubs and more. Last Friday in Downtown Sparks - July 27, 2018, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The City of Sparks has teamed up with the Sparks Museum and Cultural Center for a special event the last Friday of the month through September. Visitors can experience the museum, tour the train and Glendale Schoolhouse for free. Local bands at the Great Basin Stage. Stay late for a free movie in the amphitheater - "Fried Green Tomatoes." Monthly Reno Beer Crawl - Saturday, July 28, 2018. This event is in downtown Reno where all of the participating bars, pubs, and restaurants are within walking (or crawling) distance. It costs $5 to participate and you can just show up at one of the start bars - advance tickets not required. Crawling is from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Northern Nevada Pride Parade and Festival - Saturday, July 28, 2018. The parade begins at 10 a.m. and will travel down California Avenue starting at Hill and ending at the festival. The festival will be at Wingfield Park with entertainment on two stages until 6 p.m. Admission is a $5 donation. Everyone is invited. Proceeds benefit the local LGBT community center. Hemp & Cannabis Fair - Saturday and Sunday, July 28 - 29, 2018. Join us for a celebration of legal marijuana. You'll find hemp products, accessories and tools, grow and harvest equipment and more in our expo hall. Then, take in some great sessions on growing, medicinal benefits, legal Q & As and more. SureStay Plus Best Western Airport Plaza Reno, 1981 Terminal Way. Weekend tickets are $15. Barracuda Championship PGA Golf - Monday through Sunday, July 30 - August 5, 2018. Enjoy Reno's PGA golf tournament, one of only 47 in the world. The tournament at Montrêux Golf & Country Club offers lots of family-friendly activities in addition to the golf. This is a charity event with live television coverage on The Golf Channel. The purse is $3.4 million. Artown Closing Night Celebration - Tuesday, July 31, 2018. The free closing night party will be from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Wingfield Park Glenn Little Amphitheater. Join Artown in closing out the month's festivities with Raging Fyah, the new generation of roots, rock reggae music out of Kingston, Jamaica.
