Calendar of Virtual Events for February, 2021, at the Washoe County Library. 81st Session of the Nevada Legislature - opens on Monday, February 1, 2021 in Carson City. Groundhog Day - On Tuesday, February 2, 2021, Punxsutawney Phil will see his shadow, or not. Depending on which way it goes, Phil's 100% accurate powers of prediction will indicate an early spring or six more weeks of winter. Free history presentations from Historic Reno Preservation Society - Tuesday, February 2, 2021, 5:30 p.m. "Fact, Fiction and Howard Hughes." Howard Hughes, one of the most intriguing and accomplished Americans of the 20th century, had a profound effect on Las Vegas. This is a virtual presentation via Zoom. Presented by Geoff Schumacher. Free Classes about Gardening in Nevada - Bartley Ranch Series - Beginning on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 and continuing every Tuesday through March 30. Learn from experts about growing a vegetable garden and other plants in northern Nevada. 2021 classes will be via Zoom only and start at 5:30 p.m. Pioneer Center Youth Programs presents House of Waters - Thursday, February 4, 2021, 6 p.m. This is a live streaming event. House of Waters, an exciting and eclectic Brooklyn-based band, brings the collaborative knowledge of three master musicians into the educational space. This unique program offers students a rare opportunity to learn, experience, and absorb different musical traditions from around the world. The event is free, but you must register online to attend. Student Outreach Clinics from UNR - General and Pediatrics Clinic - Saturday, February 6, 2021, 8 a.m. to 12 noon. The Comprehensive/General Clinic provides general medical care, including complete physical exams and nutrition counseling. The Pediatric Clinic provides medical care for pediatric patients from newborns to teenagers. Clinics are by appointment only. Brigham Clinical Education Building, located at 123 17th St. and East Stadium Parkway. Super Bowl LV (55) Parties - Super Bowl Sunday 2021 is on February 7. It will be played at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL. There are lots of big parties in the Reno area where you can enjoy food, drink, and cheer for your favorite team with lots of other fans. The Weeknd will be the featured performer during the halftime show. Come in from the Cold Family Entertainment Series - Canceled. Cinema Under the Stars - Friday and Saturday, February 12 - 13, 2021, 6 p.m. The City of Reno is partnering with Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation to bring Cinema Under the Stars, a drive-in movie experience, to the community. The feature film will start at 6 p.m. each night at the Proposed Nature Study Area at 6800 Pembroke Drive in Reno. Cinema Under the Stars is a free, socially distanced event. It will be a 2-night, drive-in double feature of Mama Mia! and My Big Fat Greek Wedding. There will also be concession stands and snack booths set up. Space is limited to 50 cars each night. Admission is free, but you must sign up online. Student Outreach Clinics from UNR - Women's Clinic - Saturday, February 13, 2021, 8 a.m. to 12 noon. The Women's Clinic provides medical care aimed specifically at female concerns. This includes services such as Pap smears, breast exams, STD counseling, pregnancy tests, IUD placements, and physical exams for both gynecological and non-gynecological concerns. Second Saturdays at the Nevada Museum of Art - Saturday, February 13, 2021. Come to the Nevada Museum of Art for fun for the whole family, including storytelling, art activities, live performances, and all current exhibits. Admission to the Museum is free for all on Second Saturdays, but you must visit the website to obtain advanced admission tickets and choose the time for your visit. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Science Saturdays at the National Automobile Museum - Saturday, February 13, 2021. Join in on an adventure that is out of this world - "Engineering Spacecraft." For participants age 8 and up. Children ages 8 to 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets are sold per family group starting at $36. Admission is limited to 8 groups. The event is from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required approximately two days before the event. Call the Museum at (775) 333-9300 for more information. Valentine's Day Dining and Activities - Sunday, February 14, 2021. Valentine's Day this year falls on a Thursday. There are romantic Valentine's Day dining opportunities available, along with other fun things to with your sweetheart. Wild Winter Weekends at Animal Ark - Saturday and Sunday, February 13 - 14, 2021. Come enjoy Animal Ark's residents in a winter setting, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Adults are $14, seniors $12, children $9, 2 and under free. Animal Ark is at 1265 Deerlodge Road north of Reno. Take 395 / I580 north to Red Rock. Go right for 11.5 miles, then right on Deerlodge. 1-775-970-3111 (Must dial 1-775 even from Reno area). Please call on event day as severe weather may cancel festivities. President's Day - Monday, February 15, 2021. Schools, libraries and government offices will be closed. Animals in Winter Junior Naturalist Program from Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation - Saturday, February 20, 2021. Registration for our February virtual program is now open. Join us on February 20th for our live YouTube watch party and virtual activity demonstrations. This month, we are exploring Oxbow Nature Study Area and learning about the ways that animals adapt to winter. We will be providing the activity supplies this month for pick-up at our Idlewild Office (50 Cowan Dr. in Reno), so let us know on the registration form what pick-up day works best for you. Winter Hike Series from Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation - Saturday, February 20, 2021, 9 a.m to 12 noon. Get outside this winter and explore some of Reno's local parks at your own pace. This hike will be approximately 1.2 miles at Reno's Mira Loma Park. Free hot drinks and snacks will be served. Sign ups are encouraged but not required. Contact cara@tmparksfoundation.org. We Speak Life Virtual Premiere - Thursday, February 25, 2021, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Donor Network West presents short documentary film that seeks to spark conversations within the Black community about the importance of organ and tissue donation. It is free, but you must register online. Ice Skating at the Grand Sierra Resort - season ends on Monday, February 28, 2021. Ice skating is also available at the newly opened Jennifer M. O'Neal Community Ice Arena is south Reno. SNOWFEST! - February 26 - March 7, 2021. SNOWFEST is a ten day winter festival supporting local non profits, public programs, student organizations, and educational scholarships. To keep our community safe, we will be hosting a series of virtually events and challenges called the SNOWFEST FREEZE! Register your team today to participate and win prizes.
