Big events during August, 2015 include...

Artown Closing Night Extravaganza - Saturday, August 1, 2015. The free closing night party starts at 7 p.m. at the Wingfield Park Glenn Little Amphitheater. The evening opens with Black Violin who blend classical, hip-hop, rock and R&B and closes with jazz pop, funk and blues from The Michael Kaeshammer Sextet.

Hot August Nights Kickoff in Virginia City - Friday and Saturday, July 31 and August 1, 2015. The kickoff Hot August Nights event is now in Virginia City, with nightly cruises, a celebrity Show-n-Shine, poker run and free live entertainment. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days.

Nevada Fair in Carson City - Thursday through Sunday, July 30 - August 2, 2015. The Nevada Fair is a 4 day event featuring agriculture, carnival, evening entertainment and community showcase. There will be a 4H/FFA livestock show with an auction and small animal show, dairy cow and dairy goat show, horse show and numerous other events including sewing, baking and crafts. Admission is free to the event at the Carson City Fairgrounds in Fuji Park. The address is 601 Old Clear Creek Road, which is just west of U.S. 395 and just south of the U.S. 50 West interchange.

Lake Tahoe SummerFest Orchestra Concert Series - Through Sunday, August 16, 2015. SummerFest Concerts feature renowned soloists from the world's stages and the exceptional musicians of the Lake Tahoe SummerFest Orchestra, drawn from the New York Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Seattle Symphony and other exceptional orchestras. SummerFest events are held in the festival tent on the grounds of Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village. Visit the website or call (775) 298-0245 for more information.

Barracuda Championship - Monday through Sunday, August 3 - 9, 2015. PGA Tour golf tournament with top golf pros, at Montreux Golf and Country Club in south Reno. Watch professional golf, with lots of activities and fun for spectators.

Hot August Nights in Reno and Sparks - Tuesday through Sunday, August 4 - 9, 2015. This is the big one, Reno's huge celebration of classic cars and rock 'n roll. The crowds are big, but so is the fun, and much of it is free. Get to various venues in Reno and Sparks for lots of different things to see and do. Hands ON! Second Saturdays - Saturday, August 8, 2015. Come to the Nevada Museum of Art for a day of fun family activities and free admission for all. The theme on this Second Saturday is "Little Burners," related to the Burning Man festival. Enjoy free admission and activities at the Museum. Participate in hands-on art projects and storytelling. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Note: All galleries at the Museum are closed through August 21 for the installation of "Tahoe: A Visual History," opening to the public on Saturday, August 22, 2015.)

Reno Aces Baseball - Tuesday, August 11, 2015. The Reno Aces' first home game in August is vs. the Salt Lake Bees. There will be 11 more home games during the month. Other opponents will include the Nashville Sounds and Memphis Redbirds.

PTSD Discussion Group Meetings - Wednesdays, August 12 and 26, 2015, 6 p.m. VFW Post 9211 is sponsoring a PTSD discussion group that meets at the historic "Battle Born" bunker post every 2nd and 4th Wednesday. All individuals with a diagnosis of PTSD are invited to join this group. This is NOT restricted to veterans or VFW members. Any member of the community is invited, including civilians and service persons such police, firefighters, and medical personnel including EMT's and paramedics. This discussion group IS NOT formal therapy and is based on the original model of gatherings of Vietnam veterans before PTSD was recognized as a treatable condition by the VA or civilian medical community. VFW Post 9211 is located a block west of the Virginia Street / Moana lane intersection, adjacent to the baseball fields. The Post number is (775) 825-7007. Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival - Through Sunday, August 23. This 43rd season of the Festival offers a special treat by featuring two main plays in addition to all of the other shows and activities making up this exceptional event at Sand Harbor on the shores of Lake Tahoe.

Reno Wine Walk - Saturday, August 15, 2015. The Riverwalk Merchants present this fun event every third Saturday of the month. Visit any of the participating merchants with $20 and receive your wine glass and hand stamp (with photo ID), then make the rounds sampling wines at numerous businesses in the area. This is a 21+ event. Pets and strollers are not advised. For more information, call 775-825-WALK(9255).

Reno Gay Pride Festival - Saturday, August 15, 2015. The 19th annual festival honors the diversity of the GLBT community. The event is from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Wingfield Park and includes live performances, entertainment, and food and drink. Entry fee is $5.

Walking Tour of the Gardens - Saturday, August 15, 2015. Join the May Arboretum Society for a guided walk through northern Nevada's botanical treasure and experience the May Arboretum in a new light. This tour will focus on the diverse gardens and spectacular summer blooms. Tour starts at 10 a.m. May Arboretum Society members are free, others are $5.

Tahoe: A Visual History - Saturday, August 22, 2015. Come to the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno for the opening of this impressive new exhibit, with parts on display throughout the Museum. Experience Lake Tahoe through the eyes of 175 painters, photographers, architects, basket weavers, and sculptors. The exhibit runs through January 10, 2016.

Monthly Reno Beer Crawl - Saturday, August 22, 2015. This event is in downtown Reno where all of the participating bars, pubs, and restaurants are within walking (or crawling) distance. It costs $5 to participate and you can just show up at one of the start bars - advance tickets not required. Crawling is from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Reno-Tahoe Music Festival - Friday and Saturday, August 21 - 22, 2015. Enjoy two nights of entertainment (two performances each evening) at Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater in Bartley Ranch Regional Park. Shows each evening are at 6:15 p.m. and 8 p.m. Buy tickets in advance - they are $5 more at the door. Food and beverages will be available.

Reno Greek Festival - Friday through Sunday, August 21 - 23, 2015. Sample authentic Greek cuisine along with traditional Greek dance, music, desserts and imports. It's a fun and family-friendly Mediterranean atmosphere. Hours are 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, 12 noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. St. Anthony Greek Orthodox Church, 4795 Lakeside Drive in Reno.

Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series - Friday and Saturday, August 22 - 23, 2015. Top professional racers present high flying action at the Wild West Motorsports Park just east of Sparks off I80 at Mustang exit 23. The grandstands at this park offer unobstructed views of the track.

Nevada Humane Society Duck Race and Festival - Sunday, August 23, 2015. Enjoy a day of family-friendly fun at Wingfield Park in Reno, topped off by the big duck race in the Truckee River to raise funds and awareness for Nevada Humane Society shelter and pet adoptions. Adopt ducks for a chance to win a 2015 Toyota Corolla.

Music in the Garden Concert Series - Sunday, August 23, 2015. Join the May Arboretum Society for the inaugural Music in the Garden Concert Series featuring Friends with Amazing Voices, accompanied by The Colin Ross Band in Honey's Garden. This event is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

CANFEST International Canned Beer Festival - Saturday, August 29, 2015. This tasting festival is dedicated to craft beers poured exclusively from cans. More than 40 breweries from around the world will be represented. At the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino in Reno. VIP admission is at 5 p.m., general admission from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Burning Man - Monday, August 31, 2015. Burning Man 2015 starts in the Black Rock Desert north of Reno. The 2015 art theme in Black Rock City will be "Carnival of Mirrors."
