Big events during April, 2022 include... All Fools' Day - Friday, April 1, 2022. Also known as April Fool's Day. Don't get caught being foolish. WinterWonderGrass California - Friday through Sunday, April 1 - 3, 2022. This is the 6th annual event at Palisades Tahoe. It's a winter bluegrass music and craft beer festival featuring over 20 bands, over a dozen breweries, and food and food trucks. This is a family-friendly event with activities for kids. The venue is the Village at Palisades Tahoe ski resort, south of Truckee off Highway 89. "Sweet: A Tasty Journey" at the Wilbur D. May Museum - through May 15, 2022. An interactive exhibit at the Wilbur D. May Museum at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park in Reno. "Sweet: A Tasty Journey" will take you on a journey through the history and manufacturing of candy, chocolate, and other treats. The entry fee to Sweet is $10 for adults, $9 for children 3 to 17 and seniors. Kids under 3 are free. Hours at the Wilbur D. May Museum are Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 12 noon to 4 p.m. The museum is closed on Monday and Tuesday. Grow Your Own, Nevada! Gardening Classes - Tuesday, April 5, 2022. For spring 2022, classes will again be offered online only. They will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in April. Classes are offered for free and enrollment opens in March. The registration fee is being waived, but you still must register to attend the online classes. Discover Your Parks Free Walks - Enjoy in-person Discover Your Parks Walks during 2022. They occur every Thursday from April through September, with the first is on March 31, 2022 at Wingfield Park. The next on April 7 at Virginia Lake. Visit the web page for a full list. Attendance is limited and you must register to participate. If you would rather, you can virtually visit several popular parks and trails with guided hike presentations available from "Virtual Guided Hikes" on the TMPF website. The Passion according to St. Matthew by J. S. Bach - Musicians and Choral Soloists of the Toccata-Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will perform selections from Part II of Bach's Masterpiece, 'The Passion According to St Matthew.' Tickets are sold online for each performance.
Mimosa Day from Crawl Reno - Saturday, April 9, 2022, noon to 6 p.m. This is something a bit different - an afternoon event. It will have a drink theme rather than costume theme, feature 8 to 10 bars, have limited tickets that will probably sell out, and start at The Eddy to take advantage of the outdoors. Mimosa Day will be a chance to soak up some rays in a relaxed atmosphere where we can all enjoy some good bubbly, listen to some tunes and stroll around hitting up our favorite bars. Visit the website to get more details and buy cups online. Hands ON! Second Saturday at the Nevada Museum of Art - Saturday, April 9, 2022. Come to the Nevada Museum of Art for fun for the whole family, including storytelling, art activities, live performances, and all current exhibits. Admission to the Museum is free for all on Second Saturdays. Washoe County Library Book Sale - April 9 - 17, 2022. Sales are in the book store next door to the Sierra View Library in the Reno Town Mall. This is your chance to get big bargains on books and other media while supporting your Washoe County Library System. Sale hours are every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Preview day for Friends members is on the Friday before each sale period, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. If you aren't a member, you can join Friends at the door. Heels & Hounds: Diamonds in the Ruff - Sunday, April 10, 10 a.m. Reno's premiere champagne brunch and fashion experience is back for a fabulous morning of champagne, puppies, fashion, drag queens, jewelry, brunch and more. Watch as some of our favorite local animal lovers walk the runway with adoptable shelter pets you can take home, and rescue pets whose amazing stories we'll be featuring at the event. At the Silver Legacy Grand Exposition Hall. Presented by Nevada Humane Society. What is Rodeo? - Tuesday, April 12, 2022, 5:30 p.m. What is Rodeo? Is it a sport? Is it a performance, a circus, or "wild west show?" Is it a historical re-enactment? Rodeo, in fact, contains elements of all those things, with a bit of Indian Pow Wow and Charreria Mexicana thrown in. Free Easter Egg Hunts - Saturday and Sunday, April 16 - 17, 2022. There are several free Easter Egg hunts around Reno and up at Lake Tahoe on this Easter weekend. Some of these are big productions. Check out my list to find one near you. Easter Sunday - April 17, 2022. Easter Brunch and Dining - Sunday, April 17, 2022. You don't have to cook up a big meal on this holiday. Enjoy Easter Sunday brunch or dinner at any of several venues around the Reno / Sparks area. Free April Events & Programs at the Washoe County Library - The Washoe County Library System features a wide variety of programs and events every month. There are those for everyone in the family and some suited to certain age groups. At this point, everything is offered online as branches are not yet open for in person visits. Little Sprouts: Flower Power at the Wilbur D. May Arboretum - Tuesday mornings, April 5, 12, 19, 26, 2022, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. In the Ranch House at the Wilbur D. May Center. Little Sprouts is a free program for children ages 2 to 5 to come to the garden and learn about nature and the world around them. Adult attendance is required and they must stay for the duration of the event. Space is limited: contact the Arboretum Educator at RDunn@washoecounty.gov or call (775) 785-4153 to RSVP. The Wilbur D. Baby Animal Days and Tulip Festival at Andelin Family Farm - Thursdays through Saturdays, April 7 - 30, 2022, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission includes access to the tulip U-pick fields, petting zoo area, and all the barnyard games and activities, including our newly expanded ziplines. There are a variety of tickets options available online. The farm is at 8100 Pyramid Way in Sparks. (775) 530-8032. Free Admission to National Parks - Saturday, April 16, 2022. On the first day of National Park Week, it's free admission to all parks and other sites operated by the National Park Service. This includes parks around the west like Yosemite, Lassen Volcanic, Death Valley, and Great Basin. Other fees, such as for overnight camping and cabin rentals, will still apply. Be sure to check if your park of choice is open. Earth Day - Friday, April 22, 2022. Reno Earth Day Celebration - Sunday, April 24, 2022. Come to Idlewild Park between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to enjoy Reno's big annual Earth Day celebration. There will be numerous events, exhibitors, food and drink, live entertainment, and activities for both kids and adults. "Beauty and the Beast" at the Pioneer Center - Saturday and Sunday, April 23 - 24, 2022.Beauty and the Beast is the captivating story of the handsome prince who is cursed by an evil witch and transformed into a hideous Beast. This classic story is filled with mesmerizing dance, intrigue, and is fun for the entire family. 8 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Science Distilled: Step Into a Scientist's Shoes - Tuesday, April 26, 2022. Three seatings at 5 p.m., 6:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. What does it feel like to be a scientist? Join us for a free, family-friendly TED-style talk on the places that science can take us, illustrated with stories and experiences by Ted Hartwell. This program is family-friendly and open to all, and the content presented is most suitable for those ages 9 and up. You must register to attend. Presentations will be at the Patagonia Outlet, 130 S. Center Street, downtown Reno. Northern Nevada Science & Technology Festival - April 26 - 30, 2022. This is a week-long community celebration of the innovation happening in our region. The festival will inspire and connect our community with the power of science and technology through hands-on school programs as well as a series of free, family-friendly events hosted by well-known formal and informal educational organizations throughout Northern Nevada. With our full schedule of varied events, from quality performance reviews to big-name concerts, we aim to inspire and educate the next generation of jazz musicians. Discover Science Lecture Series at UNR - Thursday, April 28, 2022, 7 p.m. Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett, leading developer of the Moderna COVID-19 mRNA vaccine and healthcare activist, will present her lecture "Race to the COVID-19 Vaccine: Then & Now." Since the release of the novel vaccine, Corbett has continued on to be a public figure in the fight against vaccine hesitancy and misinformation. In the Redfield Auditorium in the Davidson Mathematics and Science Center on the University of Nevada, Reno campus. KTMB Great Community Clean-Up - Saturday, April 30, 2022, 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Join Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB) for the annual Great Community Cleanup. This event focuses on the cleanup of illegal dump sites and noxious weeds in the open spaces surrounding the Truckee Meadows. Every year over 700 volunteers come together to clean up our community. You will be able to choose from over 20 sites throughout the Truckee Meadows open-spaces. Go to Volunteer Opportunities to sign up and pick a work site. 51st Annual Virginia City Grand Prix - Saturday and Sunday, April 30 - May 1, 2022. Experience legendary racing in historic Virginia City where thousands of motocross riders challenge themselves in the surrounding hills. Racing takes place both days. This being Virginia City, there will be lots of related activities and things to do while the motocross racers are zipping through town and around the rugged high desert. Cinco de Mayo Celebration - Saturday and Sunday, April 30 - May 1, 2022, 12 noon to 8 p.m. Come to the Grand Sierra Resort to enjoy Northern Nevada's largest annual celebration of Hispanic heritage. From amateur boxing to dancing horses and carnival rides, there is fun for the whole family. Admission is $20 for adults, $8 for kids under 12 and seniors 65 and over. The Grand Sierra is at 2500 E. 2nd St. in Reno. Jimmy Beans Wool Makers Market - Saturday, April 30, 2022, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join us this Local Yarn Store Day for raffles, shopping, and warehouse tours PLUS an outdoor Maker's Market featuring 10 local vendors.
